Maintenance / Re: Wheel bearing inspection and replacement
« on: December 30, 2012, 07:46:35 PM »
I believe First Gen's had two  piece rotors, meaning hub and rotor separate.
Later, rotor and hub became one piece.
I would suggest in using synthetic grease for less friction, probably would never notice the difference.
Be sure to bend the tabs on the pads in securing the pad to the caliper preventing the annoying pad rattle.

Nice looking Camaro, just the same.
Trans crossmember is backwards.
Parking brake needs adjustment, cable sags too low.
Shouldn't the pulleys be deep groove?
Still, nice looking.

You're welcome, Mike.
Let me kniow how it works.

No special tools, just need a 1/4 inch drive 1/4 inch 12 point socket.
Be sure to change the O-ring inside the selector shaft and kickdown lever when you remove the assembly.
Emery paper the selector shaft providing a new surface for the new seal. Lube everything with ATF.

Restoration / Re: Problems with glass bead blasting

You might try lower pressure and compare the results.
I had done PBM blasting on a couple alum wheels to remove brake dust embedded in the surface.
Cranked the pressure down to 30 PSI, and dust came right off and no deformation of the surface texture.

You are correct, age and outgassing of the solvent. Another crutch is the recipe and lack of a better product due to technology of today as compared to the day they were made.

Mild Modifications / Re: Engine swap--are all 327s the same?

Starter with the bolts in line will take a 153 tooth flexplate/flywheel - small.
Starter with staggered bolts will take a 168 tooth flexplate/flywheel - large.
Don't forget to install the starter front brace, it will save the nose from breaking.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: VIN on a Powerglide

Most Powerglides had the VIN stamped on the pass side pan, I believe.

Could the top wheel have been sanded/ground about the stamping area - see the detail?
Are most OE wheels stamped like Marty's wheel, meaning , do you read the letters from the hub or from the rim?
Also, it looks like Marty's wheel, the stamped characters follow the circular pattern and randomly stamped where the ebay wheel the whole stamp is flatlined.

Mike, yours is not an OE flexplate, should look more like Steve's flexplate.
At this point, I would try another t/conv and/or flexplate just for giggles.

General Discussion / Re: Console temp gauge problem
« on: September 18, 2012, 01:19:01 AM »
What have you done in troubleshooting the problem?
I suggest taking a singular 200 to 400 ohm resistor, any value in between, and attach one lead to engine ground, the other lead to the green wire going to the gauge without the sensor and view the indication.
If rock solid indication, then bad sensor.
If the indication still varies, move resistor to the gauge itself and disconnect the green wire and connect the resistor.
If gauge indication is solid, check the green wire for chaffing to body ground and firewall connector for good connection.
If indication still varies, bad gauge, or bad ground on gauge itself, or intermittent power to gauge.
The problem may not be power as you did not say any problems with the other gauges as each gauge power comes from one wire in the console harness.
Could be a bad crimp in the power wire for the gauge, depends upon how the harness was made.
Unless I'm missing something here.

All flexplates are the same except the 400CID, whether 153 tooth or 168 tooth.
Could flexplate be installed backwards?
As long as the button fits into the crankshaft and flexplate is within 1/16 inch , should be good to go unless t/conv has to be slide out from the trans which might disengage the body from the oil pump.

Nice looking Camaro, but '67's did not come with spoilers did they?
