General Discussion / Re: 396 L34 Cam
« on: September 11, 2022, 03:35:08 AM »
The cam, as pointed out, is different from 325 hp and 350 hp. Essentially, that is the only difference between the 2 engines. I’d try a good reputable cam grinder like Bullit Cams. Their cores are better. I’d be very concerned about todays Chinese cores. I think with some hunting a nos GM cam could be sourced. Calcimine is good oil. Shaeffer and Brad Penn are good oils, as well.

General Discussion / Re: Looking for advice on short block assembly

Are you using .001 shim stock? If that would have brought you in spec, I still wouldn’t use anything under a bearing. That creates a heat barrier, I would think?

…can you post a picture of the entire dash and especially the grille?

When Ed says grille, he means radio opening on top center of dash, to clarify. Thought an FYI was warranted.
Ed- someday, I would like the whole book of “Ed-isms”. You, undoubtably, will contribute to Merriam-Webster’s list of new words. Lol.

I may have a variation on the hanger used on single exhaust on 1969? My December car has a single attaching point, while my March car has 2 attaching points (front and rear). Anyone care to share or pinpoint a change in design, possibly?

Thanks Ed, buddy. Kinda what I thought. But  I think I have a 880 date in June. And that was pretty close to end of production, had to ask.
