Originality / Chrome Shift Ball 1969
« on: December 23, 2018, 11:02:08 AM »
I believe this to be an original. Anyone see anything to the contrary?
Was this shift ball used on any other car and any other year besides the ‘69 Camaro? I know a 5/16 pitch was used on 67-8. Only talking this exact part. Thanks.

Originality / Witteck Tower Hose Clamps
« on: August 15, 2018, 03:03:14 PM »
Did a search, came up empty.
I am trying to figure out hose clamp dates. Specifically, would a clamp with this date, 3-68, indicate that it is 3 rd quarter of 68 and that would be correct for the early 69 model year? Or, does the 68 mean it was the 3 rd quarter of the 68 model year?
There are some parts on a GM car dated starting with the model year and then, some parts dated by the quarter of the year, IE: plug wires.

Originality / 308R Delco Patent Pending Cap
« on: April 26, 2018, 11:50:40 PM »
$2 bucks don't buy much at a swap these days. Case in point, these caps I recently acquired. Appears that I got a used 309R and a NOS 308R. I have looked and looked for a picture to compare and have not found any. I let my NCRS membership lapse, and that was probably my best hope?
I would like as much correct info on these to help the next schleb down the line, like myself, understand what they have. Now, I know the date range and usage (I think).
Since I have no other to compare, is this a repop? Is it 69 correct? I have never seen the die ejector pins on top with an X through them. Is this correct, or? Hard to distinguish colors but there is more of a brown hue seen from the inside of the brass contact cap. just wondering what I got? Thanks in advance students of 1st Gen.

General Discussion / Camaro Numbers by State
« on: January 18, 2018, 04:37:41 AM »
With all the talk of data, legacies, authentication etc..I got to thinking, with all the data CRG has at it's disposal, is it possible (translate: without massive effort on the data holders) to have a breakdown of how many Camaros , from information known in the database, are in each state? I ask because I live relatively close to where the Norwood plant was located and I worked about a mile from the plant. I have gotten to know some old timers in my area that worked for GM. And boy!, the stories! A lot of stuff was going on. One of my friends told me about a warehouse that was up the road from the plant that had round the clock security. All the ZL1 engines were stored there, according to my friend. And there was a lot of street racing, by employees, after work, right in the area of the plant. For sometime now, I have assumed that there was a higher concentration of F bodies in the Cincinnati area, just because they were built there. For those who don’t know, Norwood was a city within a city. Yep, on the East side an area was carved out and the city of Norwood, yes city, was surrounded by the city of Cincinnati. I digress, I would like to see a breakdown of registered cars, or cars in the database, broke down by state (cities would be even better). This may prove out my suspicions that more early F bodies are in Ohio or Kentucky/Indiana ( a quick geography lesson, Cincinnati is in the S.W. Corner of Ohio, bordered by Ky. & In.), than the other states save perhaps California. Or it could be that Texas, because of its size, has the most early F bodies? That’s it. If it is a monumental tall order, I can go back to just wondering. Thanks CRG.

Originality / BB Heater Box vs. SB/6 Differences
« on: August 15, 2017, 05:00:18 PM »
I recently had a chance to compare my BB heater box to a SB. I thought they were both the same and the only reason the BB box had a different part number was because of the hose cover or clips or heater core or the rubber hose hole cover. So, I tried putting the core from the BB in the SB box. It did not fit. After closer examination, I found the one thing that is different between the 2 type boxes. The BB welded in heater core plate is approximately 1/4 in. wider. I could probably make the SB work with a BB core, but I would have to modify, I.E. hammer, to make it fit. Below is what I found. I hope this helps someone ID their box in the future. Bottom box is the BB one.

Decoding/Numbers / Camshaft 3959180
« on: July 25, 2017, 12:39:16 PM »
This cam is for a ZL1 & LS7 & 2nd design L88. I have always seen these cams with 9181 designation on the end.  i have one with 9181 on the end. I recently picked up another one of these cams, but on the end is the GM part number, 3959180, instead of 9181. Both cams have a light blue paint splash, as well.

I would like to know if this cam is legit? Has anyone seen this cam with the GM number stamped like this one? 1st picture is cam example 1 with 9181, rest are example 2.
