General Discussion / 1969 396 axle ratios
« on: April 29, 2013, 03:55:42 PM »
I thought I saw somewhere where the standard axle ratio choices were listed for 1969 Camaros, but I have not been able to find this info by doing a search. The chart: It listed three axle choices, like a std. default, a performance and economy ratio for engine / trans combinations. I am primarily interested in SS optioned cars. My particular car has it's original BS code. It is a 396, 4speed M20 car. I also have a 1969 L48 with it's original BS code. Just curious as to what was standard and what was optional for L48,L34,L35 and L78 1969's? I believe Ed Bertrand would know based on another post. Thanks.Bentley B.

Restoration / 1969 SS/RS 396 need pics of core support area
« on: March 17, 2013, 04:18:20 AM »
Have searched with no luck. I own a 1969 SS/RS 396 (born with options)12B,if that matters. In the Z22 section the AIM shows hose routing down each side of Rad. opening on front of core support it also shows headlight bumper brkts. mounted on core. Are these holes drilled? Do they have to be added? Need location and measurements (exact) for all these. I do not see where they would go on my support(it is a GM NOS)Also, need pic of voltage reg-horn relay mounting on backside. My car sustained front damage before I acquired car. I believe core support was replaced (as well as header, hood anf L.fender). It is missing the H.L.bumpers on core and the hoses just have the plastic tie wraps (original) hanging down in front of core. I suspect the horn relay is mounted wrong as well, compared to my other 2 69's I have, but they are not RS equipped cars. So,please help me with pics and info before it gets painted. Car is completely dis-assembled now for paint and body work. Thanks,Bentley.

Originality / Black booster and brake lines 1969
« on: February 22, 2013, 03:02:38 AM »
Not sure on this as being original, but my 12B car has a black booster and black brake lines coming off master cylinder. It appears original as it is on the back side of booster and all the way around as well, which would have been difficult with a rattle can IMO. Do other members have these parts black OP? there is no overspray on firewall and FW paint is original. It also has sueude paint down in cowl cavity where wipers are and original paint on wiper linkage(satin black).I stated in other posts that this car has never been diassembled or restored, but did have a custom non-factory paint on body when I bought it many many moons ago (33 years) Some day I will post a pic when I figure out how to get my 35mm pics loaded. It was originally a hugger orange car,but when purchased it had a black with heavy gold metal flake paint with flames ,yellow to orange to red and blue tips that started at front nose and ended midway down doors. There was cob webbing in grill and tail panel. yes,it was very cool and was many coats of hand rubbed laquer. I sandded most of the flames off when I was 20 as I thought the cops could recognize it too well. The way I drove it it got a lot of attention. Ran mid 12's back in the day. Restoring it now and do not want to plate booster if this black was correct on this particular car. So if others have seen this chime in. The L89 that HB is selling also has a black booster. My car is an original  X22 SS/RS car.

Originality / 1969 muncie speedo capplug
« on: February 16, 2013, 03:52:00 AM »
Here is another head scratcher. Taking apart my 1969 to have a major resto of body with paint. It is a 12B(1968)build car. I have owned this car for over 33 years and as far as I know there is no evidence it has ever been apart. I have it pretty stripped down with everything removed from cowl, dash and interior.Just a bare shell now. I noticed upon removal of the speedo cap plug that it has a chrysler product insignia embossed in the interior side.can't post pic,but it is clearly a Chrysler part with CDPD(Chrysler,Dodge DEsoto,Plymouth) insignia. I am searching if other 12B owners would chime in if they have the same or anyone for that matter. Could there have been a shortage and this was provided from the vendor? I have no reason to bekieve this was replaced and the car is original in most all respects. it is a real muncie car with born with trans. Look forward if this can be confirmed in other cars. thanks.

Restoration / Door Hinges-get new ones or rebuild originals?
« on: January 30, 2013, 04:14:22 AM »
Another decision. I am hesitant to buy anything reproduction because of quality issues and correctness. NOS stuff has really been getting in my pocket, not to mention some NOS stuff is not always correct in detail. Is rebuilding hinges the way I should go? I did read post on fittment of pins (O.D.). Just want to do it right first time and not compromise car's integrity. Thanks CRG, What a blessing for us anal types.

Restoration / 1969 remote outside mirror
« on: January 28, 2013, 07:07:40 AM »
I would like to get my remote outside mirror re-chromed on my 1969. How do I get it apart without damaging? All I have done so far is removed it from car and took screw out of bezel that holds it to the base. I got stuck after that.

Restoration / 1969 outside door handle NOS
« on: January 17, 2013, 10:55:29 PM »
Just recieved an outer door handle for my '69. I bought it on =bay, part#3064224 it is a RH. Of course, I am dissappointed >:(. Live and learn, it is not like the original, too thin in the handle area. My question is how do I know it is even a GM part or a Chinese part put in a GM box? There is no part # cast into the backside. I thought that I had read the repro's did not have the right shape and that is why I needed to get NOS. I searched the forum and could not find any usable info. I must have read it on another site. I primarily just use this site as it is credible and has probably the most members interested in originality.
