General Discussion / Anyone on here willing to do my bodywork?
« on: January 09, 2014, 03:25:09 PM »
I have run into a wall on my restoration and do not know where to turn. I would like to find someone willing to do the sheetmetal work and, possibly, paint if I have any money left. That is why I am turning to the guys I trust most not to screw up my car or screw me over, yes, my fellow CRG ers. I am in S.W. Ohio, near Cincy. The car is stripped to a shell. If it does not cut into funds too deeply, I would consider shipping by transport. I do have a rollback if within, say a 100 miles (don't want to take it too far). I can also get a trailer or Uhaul, possibly. PM if you can be of help and thanks from my heart.

« on: December 20, 2013, 06:08:35 PM »
Back in 79 when I bought the "flamed 396" car, I also bought the blue SS. In 85' I bought the yellow car. Interior shot is yellow car. I was 18 when pic taken. Dented door was as I bought car. I still have all 3. Just wanted to share pics and wish all a Merry Christmas!Oops! Will have to get more Yellow car pics later, file size was too big to post.

Originality / Late post August 69 BB power steering bracket
« on: October 25, 2013, 03:45:02 AM »
Saw a restored SS Big Block car that was a late production (post August 69)car. It had a power steering bracket like the 1970 model year type. Is this correct? Or, did they use the 1969 bracket setup the entire run?

Originality / 1969 BB Exhaust Manifold bolts
« on: October 18, 2013, 08:36:04 PM »
Did a lot of research on this site and TC with no definitive answer, so here goes: 1969 396 exhaust manifold bolts-cast iron heads. I know the resto parts book show a shouldered bolt used throughout, but a guy I met at a show with a 69 396 Chevelle tells me that 2 different bolts were used. Where the larger hole is in the manifold, the bolt with washer is used and the shouldered are used on the other holes. This would be 1/2 and 1/2,8 shouldered and 8 w/washers, if correct. Can someone shed some light? Along this topic, as I understand, No french locks used? No heat shields on plugs? correct? Wanting to put an end to the BS and get the facts. Thanks, as always.

Restoration / round 1969 pinion snubber
« on: October 02, 2013, 05:31:05 PM »
Awhile back, another post brought up the fact that there are two types of pinion snubbers used on 1969 Camaros. I have the round bolt on type on my 12B Nor. car. Mine is re-usable, but I may have found a suitable replacement. Here is the add: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-1964-72-GM-BODY-PINION-SNUBBER-ROUND-STYLE-TIP-GM-3996323-/350595013212  The part # is 3996323 for A body GM's. Did anybody ever determine what the Camaro part # should be? It just so happens that the traction bars on my car also use a snubber exactly like the pinion snubber. The traction bars,I believe, are about as old as the car and were on the car when I bought it in 1979. I am still trying to get info on these TBrs with no luck so far. Hope this helps those needing this part if it is correct, which it looks good to me.

General Discussion / WOW! Chance to buy a COPO from Original owner
« on: September 19, 2013, 07:44:56 PM »
Just found this interesting...http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1969-Chevy-COPO-Yenko-Camaro-/271280681721?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item3f2996b2f9  . Claims 9,100 miles. Didn't even clean the dust or cobwebs off! I don't see evidence that it is a YENKO as owner claims, but orig. owner should know, right?   http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1969-Chevy-COPO-Yenko-Camaro-/271280681721?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item3f2996b2f9

General Discussion / Pic of My new car from 1979
« on: August 14, 2013, 03:14:46 AM »
I am still trying to get the hang of posting a pic. This is the first time I have ever posted a pic.,and my fello members are seeing for the first time my Camaro as it looked when I brought it home in 1979. Yes, I still have the car and I am restoring it slowly. 12B Nor. X22. I would like Kurt to use it on home page someday. Thanks. P.S. that is my 67 SS Chevelle in background, sold to a buddy back in the day.

General Discussion / Jerry MacNeish - Fire
« on: July 02, 2013, 07:09:42 PM »
Hey fellow CRG'ers, I tried to call Jerry MacNeish today and a recording said that he suffered a fire (Not sure if in shop or home). This may already be known by other members, so I don't want to pry  into his personal matters. I believe I can speak collectively that we all express our heartfelt sympathy and our prayers are with you in this difficult time. God Bless Jerry.

Decoding/Numbers / Check out this Trim Tag
« on: June 24, 2013, 05:51:00 PM »
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevrolet-Camaro-SS-1969-Chevrolet-Camaro-SS-Coupe-/161053034796?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item257f82492c   Nice rivet job. Is there such a thing as an X66 that does not have wheel well moldings and bright trim around H. lights? At least it is GM documented?!?...sorry for sarcasm. I guess there are way too many cubic zirconias being passed off as diamonds.

General Discussion / Another ebay claim
« on: June 13, 2013, 03:46:15 AM »
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1969-CAMARO-INDIANAPOLIS-500-PACE-CAR-396-4-SPEEDS-1-CONCOURSE-s-MATCHING-/290930225655?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item43bccaf1f7  Just had to note that the owner claims that this car was restored to #1 condition by a NCRS restorer. The second pic shows the underside and not only is the crossmember WRONG, but it is in backwards as well. Spare is gray and not a ralley wheel. Wouldn't want this restorer to touch my car.

Originality / 1969 manual trans. power brake question
« on: May 10, 2013, 05:01:02 AM »
Hi all,
Another detail I need confirmed. On 1969 AIM UPC 5 A2 (Brake cylinder bracket assembly) item 11, 3781770 bumper is shown for pedal contact in non-depressed mode. If you compare to AIM UPC J50, A3 items 1.2.3. My question is should a car with a manual trans. and J50 power brakes have that bumper (item 11)? My car has M20 and pwr. disc and the pedal striker as shown in the AIM for J50. I do not have a bumper for either the brake or clutch pedal. I can understand the clutch pedal bumper missing as the car did a lot clutch bangging (drag racing), but was unsure if the brake should have this bumper or was it only used on manual brake cars? Just wanting to get details right. Thanks. Also, along this topic; Aim UPC J50, A4 shows item 3 Pipe and support for vacuum to booster for Big Block configuration. Could someone explain the difference or post pics of the two assemblys L34-5 Vs. L78 (3921927 vs.3921929)? I have one of these tubes and would like to know if it is the right one for L78 application. It seems to fit correctly, but there are no numbers on part and , again, I want it correct. I do not want to buy another if I don't need to. My part is GM original. Thank you CRG.

General Discussion / 1969 M20 differences-ID 3950356 vs.3946797
« on: April 29, 2013, 04:11:21 PM »
I have never been able to find a definitive answer as to the difference in M20 trans. options for RPO L48,L34,L35 & lM1(3950356) vs. Z28&L78(3946797). I reference the AIM M20 A1. Hoping someone will educate me as to How to ID one from other when tag on side cover is missing. Somewhere I thought I read it had to do with speedo gear, but that may explain the Z rear axle, and not L78.... see my post regarding "SS 396 rear axle ratios" below. I hate to post if this has been covered already, but I pour over these posts daily and do a lot of searching and cannot find the correct information. I promise, I will buy Jerry's book someday, but until then? I guess, I too would like to be regarded as an "expert" someday on at least 69 Big Block cars. Thanks again CRG, Bentley B.
