General Discussion / Re: 1968 Z/28 Trim tag reproduction
« on: November 18, 2021, 01:08:34 AM »
I was watching a 70 Z this week and I was pretty sure the block was a restamp and the transmission was obvious with the wrong vin on it.  The last morning the seller decided to say when he bought it, the car was represented to him as all original.  Passing the buck for his week of saying it was the original engine.

So if you see the center of the rivet it should be pierced if factory?

I have a buddy that had the nubs worn enough on his pinion flange that it had to be replaced. The u joint was not staying centered.

Engine is 13 days after mine and the transmission is the day before mine.

Seller stated originally silver but now has orange on trim tag.  My Z is the same week and tag doesn't match at all.

Documentation for original drive train seems to be lacking.  I believe there was a comment numbers matched.  I noticed the 3 on the transmission has a different font than the engine.  Engine stamp is a lot clearer than mine.  Any comments on if either part is for that car?

My 300G convertible was delivered to the engineering plant at Chrysler.  It was late in production and from what little we can determine was, the buyer must have worked there.
There were  cars built before that camaro why werent they used for testing.  The guys story makes no sense to me.

I just was out tuning the new cam.  Small solid roller from Howards.  I had 14 inches of vacuum and acts real responsive.  I have not driven it yet.  Has a nice sound to it also.  My engine builder is pretty much anti anything other than a roller cam anymore after seeing a lot of problems.

Interesting to read that.  That was before my car was restored.  After the engine was rebuilt, I could only get 4.5 inches of vacuum out of that cam.  I took it out.   I am not sure why but I did everything I could check and x33rs helped me quite a bit on tuning it. Sounded like a drag car but it was not much fun going to a car show and backing into a spot.

I happened to catch the red white and blue trio sell.  I am thinking it was 200 for the 67 and 69 and 150 for the 68?  Crazy.

General Discussion / Re: Fuel Pump I.D help
« on: May 01, 2021, 01:48:27 PM »
I ordered a "rebuilt" pump for my Z from a large vendor.  It got here and the logo was wrong and the weep holes.  No signs of corrosion.  I sent it back and they called me irate that I would say it was a reproduction.  He said I have 6 more of these in stock what date do you need.  He called back all of them had the same date.... So at some time, someone was restamping reproduction pumps with z part number. This was like 4 years ago
