General Discussion / Re: Fake 69 Olympic Gold Z is back on the market
« on: June 16, 2012, 07:28:57 PM »
I emailed HMS when they had it and out sounded like others had too. They had to have known. First thing I saw I  knew something was up. I am sure if anyone had seen it in person would have said the same thing I did. There is a black z on Ebay that had been on before and no saled at mecum indy. I ask the owner what was up with the tag and he said it was real and he knew the original owner. I think its a march d80. Very rare z!! Other thing I didn't like, his feedback showed buying a fake 57 Chevy tag

The gold car needs find a 327 and new fake tag

After the spoilers were part of the z, did all tags say x33d80? Could you delete spoilers?

Decoding/Numbers / Re: "ML" Engine Stamp..

I saw something about as bad. I was high bidder and went to get the car, 69 z. The car was first week of june, block was first casting, september of 68. Stamped on pad so that was wrong. The block had to be stamped with the head off, the numbers were practically under the head. Guy swore it was right block. I am not sure if he did it or person that sold it to him.  engine wasnt in it when he bought it and he had it assembled. He was ok about me not taking it.. Week later guy paid 32k for it. Was an x77, but not right

13,000 miles original panels and interior, it does have aluminum heads so motor has been apart.  Its been painted. Weird how I found it. I am on vacation and checked out local craigslist. it was on there. I called and guy is in another state but his dad lives here. He found the car here. he told me place he bought it and I was headed there to look at cars that day. They thought numbers matched which they do but the guy bought it not knowing much. Didnt know about casting dates and numbers. So they match but match what!!

Its too bad it wasnt in this town. Now if I decide it might be right, I have to fly again!

Thanks

Wasnt sure what to think about the I's instead of 1's.  Car is 12A, no x code.  Looks like about 3 weeks from engine to car build, didnt seem too bad.  Dont have the block casting date yet. I do have the trim tag

Originality / Interior on 69
« on: February 12, 2012, 09:24:46 PM »
I have been trying to learn as much as I can while looking at z28s.  Little confused after seeing several.
I found a nice rs car with houndstooth.  It has a console but no wood trim on dash. I read where it should have some on the drivers side. It doesnt.  It also has standard door panels. I am thinking it should have base seats and no console?  It doesnt have the dash assist handle either and no radio.
The other car I saw did have the console and wood on drivers side, and it had the handle, standard seats and door panels.  So was the handle an option or only part of the z87?  Could you get z23 without z87?

Thank you, been spending way too much time reading info on here!
