Maintenance / Re: maintaining doors...
« on: March 25, 2014, 06:28:38 PM »
door has had paint work at some point...
Biggest tell is...
The felt guides screwed (with little countersunk phillips head screws) to the outside of the door are completely covered in orange paint...
I believe the skin was taped off and painted at some point. It looks like the stripes were taped off and painted around. The strips are original, but not the paint around them... I don't think the paper on the inside of the door had ever been off.

Maintenance / Re: 69 Key cylinder will not go to Accessory

Rear is out of the car (for 20 + yrs) lying on the back floor of my shop.  the drums were not locked up; axles turn (opposite directions), but the pinion will not.   I'm going to 'bump the pinion' with a deadblow and if that doesn't jar it loose, then I'll follow an other suggestion and dump a mix of ATF and a solvent into the differential to loosen it hopefully.   Or maybe I need to just pull the axles and pumpkin and redo/rebuild everything (axle bearings and pinion bearing/seal. I do plan to drive this car, and I prefer doing things once, and only once.. :) [/quote]
I know that's what I'm planning on doing with mine Gary. I'll pull it apart, blast it and paint it, then reinstall everything with new gaskets, brakes etc. It will be so much easier when it's out of the car and not having to to pull it back out for the R&R.

Mild Modifications / Re: Cross Ram Z in action - sorta - check er out
« on: March 18, 2014, 06:50:29 PM »
Just a quick response from a newby ..............I would have to disagree with Johns comments about the performance of Cross Ram manifold. We ran the manifold on our 67 Camaro in the Trans-Am series and although we didn't have a dyno we found the manifold to give us a real power boost probably at least 50 H.P.
Here is a link to my partner Dennis and I putting the finishing touches on our 302 race engine that we ran circa 1969.
By the way the complete set up with carbs cost us around $500 back in the day

Those were some great pics. For what it's worth, I WISH my truck and trailer got the 10 mpg you were complaining about in one of them!

That's enough to make you puke... What a find and where does the money go? Sounds like the govt makes out again.

"Larry Brown, a resident of Centre Hall, Pa., passed away on his birthday during the latter part of last year, leaving behind a trove of fascinating items. With no wife or children to inherit his estate, the entire collection — his house, TVs, snow blowers, motorbikes and of course cars — are heading to auction, with the Mustang the star attraction."

Originality / Re: 396 350hp fuel pump
« on: March 11, 2014, 06:59:58 PM »
Take a look at the applications for the 40727 (my pump). I've never noticed the note in the listing that shows specifically w/o the return line like Classic Industries listing( see below). I always saw the 70 L34 and never looked any deeper and figured mine was right. Ground Up is different and so are a bunch of others. My motor is a CJF which means its actually a 402 and would be considered a 1970 motor even though it's my born with 396 engine.

Classic Industries:
Applications:

•1969 396/375hp (L-78)
•1970 396/350hp (L34) w/o return line
•1970 396/375hp (L-78) after Feb 70, w/o return line

Ground Up's Listing:

Correct for 1967 Chevy 427, Chevrolet 396/350HP, 1968 Chevrolet 396/375HP, 1968 Chevrolet 427, 1969 Chevrolet 396, 1969 Chevrolet 427, 1970 Chevrolet 396 or 454 with Holley carb,

I feel like I'm hijacking, so I'll leave it at that. Sorry for the bad info Dean...

A side note: SgtHawk I think your pump is for H.P. application, i.e. L78. L34=40568
Thanks for that. I had no idea. It goes to show you, anything can happen in 40+ years. I'm not surprised, fuel pumps fail... I'm sure mine was replaced with what was available at the time. Any idea if the fuel pressure is any different between the two? Maybe I SHOULD be thinking about what we talked about in the PM... hmmm.

You're welcome. Hope this helps. From more reading from the same poster, it looks like "K" might actually be 1971. Mine was a late 69 build, so the pump I have is more than likely a warranty replacement.

From DCL70SS on CRG:
"The first letter is the month, A=Jan, "B"=Feb. ...........................L=Dec. (the letter "I" was used).
The second letter is the year, E=1965, F=1966, G=1967, H=1969.
NOTE: The AC pumps made in 1964 and prior do not have the 2 letter. I have an AC pump stamped only "4657" from a 1964.
Sometime in the early 1970's the date code changed to 3 numbers (the day of the year) and one letter (the year)."

More info from what appears to be the same user that says K is 71

Congrats to both of you guys! Buenymayor's car looks great. ko-lek-tor, I'm happy to see you have things back underway. It's a great feeling I'm sure. I'll keep an eye out for your posts. Maybe I can pretend it's my car getting some wrench time seeing how they're almost twins.

I know this isn't Camaro related, but you guys are always a great source of information. I'm looking for the needle in a haystack. I'm looking for pictures of my father's drag car from back in the 60s and 70s. There are a ton of pictures of it out there somewhere, but I don't know where. The last pictures seen were at a World of Wheels show in Boston back in the 80s. A track photog was selling them. My dad is a very modest guy and was never interested in pictures so he didn't keep too many.
He raced mainly at New England Dragway, but at several other tracks in Connecticut, NY, Jersey etc.
The description of the car is pretty straight forward: 62-64 Nova orange hilborn fuel injected 426 hemi with the stacks sticking up out of the hood. Straight front axle. There were no stickers etc all over it. When it was racing it had a set of magnesium mags on it. If memory serves me right they were Torque Thrust style, but could have been American racing or something similar.
I'll post in a couple of other places, but figured I'd give it a shot here. Thanks for any help.

Here is a pic of mine. This one is date coded 1973, which means it was obviously replaced at some point, but it's the correct pump and number. Mine is an L34 like yours. Good luck.

Nothing wrong with a nice 4th gen. I miss my 93 Z28. It was a great driver and did pretty well at NE Dragway in the late 90s.

Mine:

What mine wishes it did... always loved this action shot.

General Discussion / Re: Fredd Gibb ZL 1 on eBay.. Rebodied?
« on: March 03, 2014, 06:16:55 PM »
124379N609965  ZL1 #27

Here's the real story on the car: http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/306777/1
Yes, it was rebodied in 76 - the floor had been completely hacked out of it - and it was sold as a drag car. The VIN was then removed from the drag car (with most of the #27 parts still on the drag car) and put on another body - the one for sale I believe.
Wow, what a story. I hope someone can mate the real VIN tag back with the original body at some point. It's a shame to know they're separated. At least the guy that did it is open and gave up all the information about it. It makes the research a little easier for someone.
