”....not sure why it would be restamped?”
I think everyone else on this site has an idea why?
I think he means because it had the original numbers motor in it when he had it. Not a re-stamp at the time.

Did he find any other shipper sheets?
Thanks James. Yup that's mine. I've been on here for years learning. I appreciate the info you guys have accumulated.
I've owned this car for 36+ years. I'm the 7th owner. I have spoken on the phone to or met every owner. Even the original dealership owner who gave me access to the paperwork. This was way back in the 80's before every thing got shut down for privacy laws. I've got the Shipper, Original Bill of Sale, and the page from the dealer inventory book, showing when it was shipped and when he received it. I also have a copy of every title for the car and old pictures from some of the previous owners.
Details of the car are basically a X22 O5A 718 Norwood built. L78 M21 BU.
I've been thinking about telling it's story here for years, but I get too busy in the garage. It's a long story just from my ownership of 36 years alone. The story of tracking the original owner and paperwork took years, (before the internet).
If you guy are interested. I'll try to tell it. I get busy as I'm doing a Z11 right now.
Rich
Would love to hear about it, but I'm glad to see your priorities are in the right place. The garage! Enjoy...

Belongs to a local guy who retired to upstate SC, he lived in Chicago for years and bought parts for the car from D&R, he has owned it for ever... he and his wife searched through uhaul truck bodies years ago for the original shipper and found the bankers box marked july 69 in truck number 2.
That's fantastic. Nice to see him driving it. Some great options and very sharp.

Maintenance / Re: Fuel pump
« on: October 03, 2019, 01:08:57 PM »
The filter is mounted in front of the block before carb the after pump.  Is'nt the fuel pump suppossed to have a check valve to keep the fuel in the line? Could this be weak or bad causing my issues?
Anything is possible. If the bladder is ruptured the fuel could potentially leak down and go back to the tank or end up on the ground. Sounds kind of suspect to me though. That wouldn't explain the starving fuel unless you're thinking it doesn't provide enough pressure to fill the float bowls. Get a pressure gauge on it so you can rule it out or confirm that's what's happening. Should be ~6psi for a Holley if that's what you're running.
Seriously though, get rid of the glass fuel filter unless you want your car to become a circus attraction when the fire dept has to show up.

The fuel from the glass filter, which you should toss in the trash, has to be going somewhere. It won't just evaporate out of there in an hour. Look at where it's leaking and fix that for starters. Cutting out/starving for fuel could be a stuck float. These cars generally sit for a while and when they do the ethanol fuel wreaks havoc. Where/how is the filter mounted?

My first SS. Think the pic is from Fall 19 ya 78. Do idea what the tag said or the Vin#. Had black deluxe comfort weave interior rosewood dash and steering wheel, tach and gauges. 350 4 spd. Rear mounted antenna with short spoiler. No air.
Got caught out in snow coming home from my job a grocery store bagger. 35 mph, flipped upside down in ditch. Crushed front passenger front fender and pilar post and roof...though not terribly bad. Could have been fixed, but sold it for parts....Loved those Western Wheels.
Great pic! Sorry to hear about the crash... Looked like a hell of nice machine.

Isn't it nice when folks come out to ask for help (afrank3594), get it, and never thank or respond to the people that helped them? Sorry, but Ed took the time to post those nice pictures and I think it's pretty ignorant to never respond. Maybe it was the DC traffic this morning that took all my patience...

Decoding/Numbers / Re: 69 L78 trim tag
« on: September 13, 2019, 07:15:06 PM »
Dave, read THIS.

Quote
The Xnn codes were a mid-1969 model addition to the Fisher Body cowl tags of Norwood-built Camaros, starting with the 12B (second week of December) build week. (CRG has found 12B cars both with and without these codes. Our data for all cars in prior weeks is absent this code, and our data for all cars in weeks following contain this code.) These codes were an aid for Fisher body assembly workers to identify body trim and paint changes required for different Camaro models. The codes are divided into two groups: those with the Z21 style trim option and those without the Z21 style trim option.

Ed

Thanks Ed.

It's been around the block a few times. Google the vin. Appears to have been bought and sold many times.

William, Why would a 12A not have an X code, but a 12B would? Are you saying you think that was added to a real tag?

Sharp looking 69, but nobody painted the black tail panel during the resto. Non-original motor. Looks like the right rivet was over tightened like it was done later. Just off the bigger pic.

No disrespect William and Darrell, but I don't think you can conclude that the tag has been off the car because of the putty. All that means is that someone replaced the putty. Could have happened during a resto etc. Not everyone knows not to mess with it. I've seen quite a few cars that don't even have the putty put back in. Probably a better idea in this case... FWIW, I know nothing about this particular car.

It would be great to see a like button in posts. A lot of times I'll see a great post by someone, but a comment wouldn't benefit the thread. I'd like to be able to easily tell them I like what they had to say or a picture they posted without having to add an unnecessary post to a thread.
