On mine, and several others I've heard of, there is a different bolt other than the other 11 on the diff housing. It's the bolt that holds the brass block and rubber hose assembly where it goes from the pumpkin to the floor. In the AIM (UPC 5, B3.), it says it's just part of the axle assembly and doesn't show that it's different. Mine still works, but it's pretty rounded. The other 11 are good. The biggest difference I see is that it doesn't have the wide, washer like base like the other diff bolts. Anyone know the specs on this one? Is there a part number out there for it so I can cross ref the AMK book or somewhere else?

Mild Modifications / 73 M21 in 69 SS396 (Custom Shifter Mount)
« on: October 08, 2015, 02:40:33 PM »
I'm trying to make up a mount to mount my stock shifter to my 73 M21. What do you guys think about this shifter position for neutral? It pretty close to centered on the hole. What about the angle and height? Should the shaft as it comes up out of the shifter body be more or less perpendicular to the floor? I've looked at a bunch of pics, but the pic angles make it pretty tough to get an accurate set-up.
I'm going to try to make a mount out of a solid block of aluminum that I have. If that doesn't work out, I'll go with steel. It doesn't seem like it'll be too bad if I can get the initial position right for measurements.

Restoration / 69 BB zbar angle
« on: September 23, 2015, 05:59:23 PM »
What do you guys think of the angle of my zbar? I threw my original 396 in with the original mounts for now so I could see how everything is lining up before I put new motor mounts and my spare 396 in it. Its a 69 BB cross member also. The clutch arm is new GM in the original 621 bell housing. The only thing I'm not absolutely positive of is the tranny mount. It seemed to line up perfectly though. It's a 73 Z28 M21. Thanks.

General Discussion / Gordon Butler Chevrolet Lowell, MA (murder & mayhem)
« on: September 14, 2015, 04:44:40 PM »
I figured that title would get a few readers attention... My SS was originally sold by Gordon Butler Chevrolet in Lowell, MA. They lost their franchise under less than stellar conditions. To make a long story short, one of the reasons is that a GM rep was murdered during a large scale warranty fraud investigation.
My question is, does anyone know of any way of getting any info on my 69 after this happened? I know it's a long shot, but I'm just trying to trace the car back from pre-1983. Maybe try to figure out who the original buyer was. A know the girl's name that bought it from "R&R Auto" in Rowley, MA in the late 70s or early 80s. R&R is gone from what I can see too. I don't know anything else before that.

Originality / Inner/outter wheelhouse Pic
« on: September 08, 2015, 05:44:45 PM »
Would one of you with original 69 wheelhouses mind taking a pic for me? I'm looking for the area in front of the driver's side rear wheel where the body plug/plugs are. I replaced my wheelhouses and the a/m replacements put two body plugs there and someone questioned it. Mine were rotted, so I didn't have a good pic of it.
Here's a pic of what I'm talking about:

Originality / BB Fuel Line Rear Frame Rail Mounting
« on: August 28, 2015, 12:27:04 PM »
A couple of weeks ago someone was asking about how the fuel lines mount to the rear frame rail. I couldn't remember which post it was, but I took a few pics while I was mocking up my line. Like was mentioned in the original post, only one of the lines go through the final bracket.

Restoration / A couple things to look for on a/m floors
« on: August 26, 2015, 12:30:24 PM »
Overall I'm extremely happy with my sheet metal, but I thought it might help a few guys to see a couple differences/mistakes with the stampings on my Dynacorn floor pan.
The first problem isn't that big a deal, but it's kind of a pain now that I painted the floor. I should have mocked EVERYTHING up. Not just the obvious things. It turned out that the fuel line mount under the door was too close to the pinch weld. I'll have to drill the spot welds and move it out slightly.

The second problem I consider a relatively big one. It bugs me every time I look at it so I have to fix it... They took a short cut and didn't install the plates around the rear seat belt mounts under the floor. It causes a problem for mounting the brake line that goes there. Now I'll have to move mine from my original floor to the new one. I think the hardest part will be dimpling the floor where the brake mount bolt goes. The a/m pan doesn't have the dimple either. Not that hard, but it's more time that I shouldn't have had to spend if the manufacturer got the details right.

Original plate:

Dimple from the inside view. You can see where the mount bolt pierced it at some point. Someone probably forgot to use a washer. I suspect they dimpled it so the bolt wouldn't rip the rear seat.

Restoration / Fuel Tank Resto
« on: July 23, 2015, 02:58:56 PM »
I'm trying to save my original fuel tank and need some input. The exterior is pretty rough, but even the fuel sending unit is mint inside. There is zero internal corrosion. I have a media blaster with Aluminum Oxide and it does an amazing job on anything I throw at it. The tank hasn't had fuel in it since 2008. I know, I know... I was thinking about filling it with water just in case and sealing up the filler and sending unit hole to blast it. My cabinet is big enough. Thoughts and suggestions? Here's a few pics:

Restoration / Rear upper shock mount (weld in)
« on: July 16, 2015, 06:08:11 PM »
Would one (or more...) of you mind posting a couple pics showing where the welds were on the rear upper shock mount? I need to weld mine back in, but my pictures of that area weren't detailed enough to see where the welds were. I want to paint my trunk, but I can't until I get those mounted.

Thanks!

Restoration / Idler Arm Boot
« on: July 07, 2015, 01:13:24 PM »
Is there a source for a 69 Idler Arm Boot? My idler arm (3917581) is good, but the boot is ripped. Any alternatives if one isn't available? I don't mean like buying a new one... According to David Pozzi's site, there are quite a few differences between what's available a/m and the originals.

Thanks.

Site Comments/Discussion / Notifications

I keep track of a lot of posts for referencing using "Notifications." It would be helpful if there was an easy link/tab to manage notifications in our Profile or another tab. I could keep track of them using bookmarks, but my bookmarks don't help when I'm using several different computers. Just a thought. Thanks for the great site guys!

Decoding/Numbers / Can X66 be ordered with Z21?
« on: June 29, 2015, 07:26:21 PM »
I was looking through the option lists today and I saw some differences between what my Camaro has and a few things I've read here on CRG. According to CRG, X66 would could not come with the Z21 Exterior Style trim. Mine is w/o question an X66, but it seems to have all the Z21 options. It came with the gills, bright tail light accents, & the bright roof drip molding. Could Z21 have been ordered as an option w/ X66?
It also looks like mine was ordered with the Z23 Interior Style trim. I have the wood grain accents on the driver's side only, grab bar and the bright pedals.
It seems to make sense that someone that cared to order the Z23 option would go for the Z21 as well.
At the end of the day I'm trying to figure out exactly which options mine came with originally. Here's the list I've come up with so far. If anyone sees something wrong with what I've come up with, please let me know. Any help would be appreciated.

Restoration / Leaf spring Resto/Preservation
« on: June 29, 2015, 12:10:50 PM »
I pulled my leaf springs out of the barn to media blast & paint black, but then realized they were in too good shape to do that. Not a lot of rust and you can still see what looks like the date code stenciled on them (how does that decode?). What do you guys think I should do to preserve them before installing them? I was thinking about hitting them with Evaporust, but then what? If anyone is interested in my resto, I have a lot of pics posted over on Camaros.net.

Here is how the rear end came out that I'm mounting to the springs:

Originality / 69 Big Block lift hooks
« on: February 04, 2015, 03:34:34 PM »
I know this topic has been beaten to death, but even using the search I couldn't find a definitive answer. I found some lift hooks, but I also found some conflicting information. Are these hooks pictured below ONLY for 73 up 454s? Someone told me they were used on all big block Camaros 68-80. P/N: 3994055. I don't believe it.
The correct ones for Camaros are the ones that are rounded at the top right? Notice how the U shaped one in the pic is off center too.

Thanks!

Originality / 69 OE Grille or A/M?
« on: January 29, 2015, 02:48:14 PM »
I've been trying to figure out if this grill is OE or A/M. Any thoughts? I can get it for a real good price if it's OE. I don't want to shell out the funds if it's A/M. The seller said it's black molded plastic also. Thanks.

Here's a few more pics of the back of the grille. Is it original or a/m? It looks like it has the mold realease pins. A/M doesn't have that right? Would you take a chance on it for the right price?
