Thanks George. I did not even think of the aluminum intakes being masked. How is yours coming along and since it was on the dyno what kind of numbers did it make?

Nice score. That looks like a really solid car to start with. Good luck with the project I will be following along with you.

If yours is the big block make sure you have the cast exhaust manifolds on when you do it.

Yes, and wasn't the water pump on before paint on the big block so therefore a bare look on some of the timing cover and back of the water pump?

Correct there should also be overspray on the coolant hose between the pump and intake.

Why? why not just mask off the holes?

Because the engine was painted with both the exhause manifolds and water pump on therefore you would have over spray on the manifold and the water pump to intake hose. If you want to get as close as factory correct as possible that is the way to do it.

Is this car in the database? Current ad shows a big block A/C auto car.

General Discussion / Re: how about this one

From seller's listing...

"CAR WAS APPRASIED FOR MORE THAN $130000-DUE TO THE FACT IT IS 1 OF 3 THAT WERE ORDERED IN 1968 WITH STRIPE DELETE AND THIS COLOR"

"CAR ALSO HAS ORIG SHOCKS,FACTORY PAINTED WHEELS AND SPARE"

Would the factory have painted the rally wheels orange?

Paul

The ad also says the car was certified and appraised by Jerry. I wonder if he will add his comments here on the site?

Decoding/Numbers / Re: 69 CONVERT. TRIM TAG REAL OR ?
« on: September 11, 2013, 11:38:04 PM »
Not sure about the tag, but those rivets are definately not correct and tells me that tag has been off the car and put back on at some point. So I say not original.

Since the car is an early pre x code car, here is some good reading to do your research. Use this information and see if it matches what you find on the car.
http://www.camaros.org/diffs69.shtml

A real 69 SS should have:
1. 12 bolt rear end.
2. Multi leaf  rear springs
3. front disk brakes
4. dual exhaust with the previously mentioned plate on the driver's rear frame
5.  ss hood with insulation
6. Rear brake line regulator valve found mounted on the frame rail under the driver's door.

RS equipmetn includes:  http://www.camaros.org/options.shtml#id
Back up lights in the lower rear panel with holes stamped in the panel for the wiring.
1.00 dia" hole stamped in the fire wall to the right of the brake booster for the vacuum lines.

Mine is an SS/RS so if you need any photos for comparison just let me know.

Originality / Re: 1969 396 power steering hose question
« on: September 01, 2013, 10:55:21 PM »
Here is  a photo of mine showing both the HP and LP hoses have the protective sleeves. Since they are still on the car I can't get a good look at the lettering. At the pump the HP hose with the crimped fittings have the s curve while the LP hose with the clamps exit the pump and angles down about 60 deg. The more I learn about my car the more I find out how original it is. I don't think the engine has ever been out of the car.

Kurt,
This is my 11C build 69 396 so I am not sure if it should have the 67-68 pn 3912552 others posted above or if that would be the same as your 05C build car? I hope the info I described above about how they fit at the back of the pump helps.

Originality / Re: Exhaust
« on: August 17, 2013, 12:12:55 AM »

For NC8, the Z28 headpipes were 2.25" in diameter EXCEPT where they attached to the exhaust manifolds. Again, that "Connection point" was 2" like the N10, and again, I don't know how far down it extended until it turned into 2.25". The short "over the axle" pipes were 2" after that first chambered section and then the tailpipes were also 2".

Anyone know if this was the same as the big block cars? I have a chambered exhaust 11C build car with 2" at the tips or should it be 2-1/4?
