Photos 818 - 820 - Removal of the forward exhaust hangers.  Note the bolts are zinc/cad for the nut inserts and phosphate on the coarse thread bolts.  I will have after cleaning/preserving of the hangers in a few weeks.

General Discussion / Re: Where Do I Start to Authenticate My New 68 SS?
« on: September 25, 2023, 06:25:47 PM »
There are no "exhaust plates" on 67 or 68's.  69 only.  What you will find are 2 holes (holes were for nut inserts for the tailpipe hanger) for the dual exhaust mounting on the frame rail.  Post up photos from all angles of the engine compartment, firewall and as David suggested post up the diff stamping and casting date photos.

You can find more info on where to look etc here.  ====>  1967-1969 Drivetrain - Axle Link

You can also go here and start clicking around and reading.  It will help you and possibly answer any more questions you might have before posting questions that may have already been asked.  Good luck and congrats on owning the best 1st gen year (1968).

I am not questioning the originality but was wondering if there was bleed over into 68 being that late into production.  Thanks for the clarification.

Great photos and nice work Bryon.  Gman, what was the original color of the car and interior option if you remember.  Thanks.

Steve, curious because your 68 is that late of a build, does the core support have the holes for the 69 style condenser?

I ended up making a set for my old 67.  Here’s some photos.  They were a pain in the butt to make and I don’t plan on doing it again.  :(

Those are not technically correct.  Originals are different.  Here’s a pair I sold a few years ago.  I’m not aware of anyone making 100% clips.

There was also a thick dense foam seal (3 pieces) between the radiator and core support (2 up top and 1 across the bottom IIRC). I’ve only witnessed it on my old 69 and when restoring the 1st pacer of my fathers we used them from my car on his.  Idk if I have seen them in repo form but I’ve also not looked recently.  That is what’s being called out as #2 in the AIM.  #1 is the top seal for the core support and hood.
