But the areas between the stacks are not paint or should I say there no signs of having had paint.  Wire is like James mentioned.  0.040"

Dealerships would up sale the undercoating when the car was new..  My fathers 68 was undercoated from the dealer..  They lived in Ohio close to the lake and salt from bad winters in Mentor so it made sense..

Soak them in Evapo and see if there are any markings or stampings..

That diverter valve is not the original. The decals weren't used until the 70's.
