Decoding/Numbers / Re: 1968 L89 Camaro barn find?????????????

First welcome.. ;D

Best thing would be to get paperwork on the car.  Get pics of the block stampings, vin, cowl tag, trans stamping and diff stamping.  Only then can anyone give an evaluation on the car.

I know this is not camaro related..... but I know some of you were in the" Nam" during 1965 thru 1974. And for you younger guys, you can see what  these brave men had to endure. Vietnam Lost Films. The Beginnings ( 1964 - 1965 ) 1/6  Terry P. S. How many times have we heard of the servicemen coming home and buying a camaro...
and many never came home..   and I heard of many, and know of at least one '69 Z28 which sat in his parents carport for many years.... in the last '70's, still waiting for the return that never happened....  It was a gorgeous azure with black vinyl top car..  that was one of the first Z28's I'd ever seen with the smog still intact, and I have no idea now what happened to it..   and forgive me for this one..  but in October of '69, while I was in the USAF, I ordered a lime green roadrunner HT... and I don't know where it is now either.  :)

You wouldnt have been stationed in Texas by chance around the 69-73 time frame?

I need to take the grilles off to get a better shot.  By the pic now that you mentioned it mine seem to taper to one side.  Meaning shallower to the inside if the panel was installed.  When I get home Ill try to remember to pull it apart.  I need to repaint them anyways.  Good catch btw..

Not sure about other models but the ones I have that I bought 15-20 years ago look exactly like yours.  These are for 67-8 (kickpanels) heres a few pics.

A couple years ago history channel had a 5 part special about Vietnam.  One of the gentlemen talked about being a young engineer & having just bought a 68 Camaro before being drafted .  It showed a small pic of the car.   Looked like a red SS.

Is there anyone here that lived or knows anyone that lived in Texas even in or around Austin in the late 60's early 70's?  Thanks, Darrell

« on: September 24, 2013, 03:39:53 PM »

Do you have the weights of the 230/250 ci 6 cyl engine?   I've been under the impression the weight was very similar to a small block V8 of the same era..?

These are rough #'s I have and Im not real sure where I got them..

Chevy L6 194-250 cid 440 lbs
Chevy L6 216/235 cid 630 lbs
Chevy small block V8 575 lbs with iron heads and intake
Chevy small block V8 535 lbs with iron heads/alum intake

Chevy V8 348/409 620 lbs
Chevy big block V8 685 lbs

That is a good question.  Here is a few pics of an original L78 car.  My guess is the one on the water pump was painted and the one on the intake zinc?  Extremely hard to tell on this one due to all the rust and I do not plain on removing them anytime soon.  Hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in.
