General Discussion / Include dealer sticker as part of restoration?
« on: April 11, 2016, 01:22:01 PM »
I have the opportunity to have a copy of the dealer sticker that was on the car when purchased in 1967 from Spielman motors in Brooklyn. It is approximately 1 1/2" tall by 6" wide (about the size of the Chevrolet script emblem) and an example image of it is posted below. It was affixed on the tail panel between the cap and right light housing.
I'm restoring the car to be as it left the factory but undecided if to include the dealer sticker as it left the showroom.

What would you do?

Thanks,
Mike

Maintenance / Source for 67-68 RS backup light inner gasket?
« on: February 19, 2016, 10:25:36 PM »
Hello,

Has anyone who has, or had, replaced the lower backup lights on a Rally Sport (67-68) ever replaced the gasket that goes between the rear of the light housing extension and the round hole in the valance to seal it from water getting into the valence from behind? It is shown in AIM Z22/B3 and is item #2 with a part number of 3899800.
I may have to resort to fabricating one if there are no vendors who sell them. The original is crumbled.  think I have exhausted all vendors so far so I wanted to give CRG a try.

Thank You,
Mike

Garage Talk / Way OT: Dodge lost rear end
« on: February 04, 2016, 07:05:31 PM »
I know this is way out of topic but this video footage was too good not to show. I wonder what failed to cause this?
After the incident the rest of the video is worthless.

I'm getting ready to apply spatter paint to my 67 convertibles trunk. I may use a home grown solution to duplicate the spatter size so I want to paint all that needs to be painted in this one run. As I understand it, from reading past threads on spatter painting,  the shakers were suspended inside the trunk during spatter painting and then later secured to the floor and side brace. That's clear to me. What I am curious about is where inside the trunk were they suspended from? By that time the body was painted I figured it wasn't from the gutter frame being they weight close to 50 pounds between the two, or was it? I'm also assuming coverage of the shakers varied from partial to full on one side. When I restored the car back in the 80's I just don't remember seeing spatter on the shakers then so I painted them semi-gloss back.

Restoration / Anyone crush soild rivets?
« on: January 15, 2016, 02:47:15 PM »
Has anyone rebuilt their steering rag joints using solid rivets as supplied in kits? I have a 20 ton press at home and was wondering if I could successfully crush the solid rivet supplied in the rebuilding kits and if any special blocks are required. I want to keep the factory look instead of using the other kit that uses nuts in place of rivets.

Thank You,
Mike

Though this article is not from a Camaro site, it is one of the more informative articles about brake fluids I have come across and thought some here may find it informative. Also, I was under the impression using silicon would eliminate the need for any maintenance (barring obvious leaks) but the interesting explanation about water separation from silicon and seeking the lowest levels within the brake system was of interest. It's several pages but well worth the reading.

Originality / Heater box gaskets in kit
« on: December 10, 2015, 01:49:37 AM »
Hello list,

I searched the archive but could not find an answer to if the original '67 heater box had a gasket between itself and the defroster input at the bottom and also the defroster output to the dash openings. I have these in the heater pad kit. I don't see any in the '67 04B LOS car.

Restoration / Heater cover use five mastic washers?
« on: December 03, 2015, 07:46:22 PM »
Hi Guys,

I'd like your opinion on this one. Looking at the attached AIM page, my question targets the seal shown in the lower diagram as item #7 which is a mastic type of washer. Are these on all 5 speed nuts and this single view is an example for all, or do you think it pertains only to this one screw stud with the attached clip. I ask this because I have seen some kits on eBay and notice they include 5 mastic type of washers. These look to be in addition to the main cover channel adhesive.

Maintenance / How did the factory install the rear differential snubber?
« on: December 01, 2015, 01:30:34 PM »
I struggled for 20 minutes and still didn't succeed to install the new rubber snubber above the differential. Did the factory use a tool to install it during their fast paced build?
It is the correct one but the triangular edge compresses too much to get past the opening when pressure is applied. I tried a thin layer of synthetic lube on the edge and various angles but to no avail.

Restoration / Were lower control arms painted as a whole too?
« on: November 18, 2015, 11:34:58 PM »
I know the upper control arm was painted as a complete assembly with the arm, dog bone, bushings and end caps. But, were the lower control arms painted as a whole assembly too with the bushings installed? I know the ball joints were added later hence no paint. I just pressed in a set of bushings into the painted lower arms but it just clicked if the bushings too need to be painted.

Thank You,
Mike

Hello group,

Maybe John or William may know the answer? I have read the Camaro Assembly Process and was curious about the convertible power top description in the Fisher Body -Trim Shop Operation section: ".....Convertible windshield frame trim moldings and latch hardware were installed, along with the power top mechanism, plumbing, and wiring. "
Did this include bleeding the hydraulics (when this option was ordered)? Did the "wiring" include up to the circuit breaker on the firewall?

Restoration / Rear panel blackout tape line verification
« on: November 09, 2015, 08:50:02 AM »
Hello list,

After putting my 67 BB convertible restoration on hold due to family illnesses, I finally got the car in paint this past week. I have searched the CRG archives and could not find any closeup pictures of the rear tail light panel blackout tape line. Looking at my 67 LOS BB survivor, the tape line looks to be on the actual quarter panel side thereby exposing the seam sealer to blackout too. I wanted to see if NOR was the same way before I apply the blackout paint today (hopefully). Can someone please help me out with this one?

Restoration / Opinions on reproduction convertible header moulding?
« on: October 01, 2015, 04:02:42 PM »
I'm looking to either re-chrome or buy the reprodiction convertible header molding for my '67 (I'm weighing cost vs. OEM fit and finish). I do not see any specific markings on the originals so a well made repro will be fine for me. Has anyone used a reproduction on their ragtop and if so how do you like the fit and finish? Is the end plate section that screws to the windshield frame post riveted on like the originals?
I wish there was a local place here on Long Island to see these in person.

Thank You,
Mike
