Would one of you '67 owners be so kind as to check your chassis mounted front bumper brackets and let me know if you have the serrated washers on the rear bolt? I installed the front bumper (AMD '67 only front....fits perfect) and I followed the AIM. I noticed this morning I had two serrated washers left over. I looked at the '67 LOS survivor and it uses 4 washers total (2 front and 2 rear of the brackets) but the AIM clearly shows only the front bolts get it. When I refinished the brackets I smoothed the tooth marks but that was almost 2 years ago and honestly I don't remember if the rear holes had marks. I know LOS did things slightly different but I have a feeling this is one of those few AIM mistakes.
Oh.....the rear J-nut on the bracket (AIM item #1) is now sold by AMK but is listed as a GTO item though using the same GM number.
The shape of the captive nut is slightly rounder compared to an original.

Thank You,
Mike

General Discussion / Anyone use reproduction quarter glass chrome?
« on: January 20, 2017, 02:08:20 PM »
Of all the pieces of chrome I remembered to send out for re-chroming, I forgot the quarter glass chrome. I knew I made a boo-boo when I went to reinstall the glass and took it from storage. In an effort to keep the reassembly on track and not wait another 7 weeks, I was thinking of using reproductions. Has anyone purchased reproductions and if so, what brand and do they have the slight indent on the inside-top that would fit into the roof/convertible seal?

Thank You,
Mike

Originality / Tall and short electrical junction block
« on: December 19, 2016, 02:12:04 PM »
While cleaning up the junction block on my 67 convertible I noticed how tall it is when compared to the 67 LOS coupe.
Has anyone seen this taller style before? I did a search on eBay and see only the short style available. I attached an image of the LOS and NOR side by side. I did look in the 67 AIM and in UPC 12/A6 and see a note the drawing was revised to reflect new circuit and cable wire positions but that was late in 8/66. I wonder if the taller block enforces that position? I noticed the wire nut (same on both cars) is not what AMK sells though I know the hardware they do sell is based on the latest (of that time) engineering drawing and that could have been past the 67 model year in this case.
I'm not losing any sleep over it but was just curious.

Originality / 1967 windlace end cap style open or closed?
« on: December 07, 2016, 02:17:41 AM »
I was going to order replacement windlace end caps to replace one that had the metal tab break off due to oxidation and noticed there are two designs after checking both my cars. The 04B LOS coupe has an open ended cap and the 05B NOR convertible has a closed end cap. Both style caps press up against the door weatherstrip when closed so I can see how the open ended cap would seal. The open end does not appear to ever have had a separate cap that would attach to it.  I'm curious is there was a style change during the '67 model year run or it was a NOR vs. LOS supplier thing. I don't think it matters what the body style was. I see both types listed on eBay for 1967.
What do you '67 owners have?

Thanks,
Mike

Restoration / Trunk stickers that don't lift?
« on: September 28, 2016, 01:14:49 PM »
Has anyone found a vendor who makes or sells reproduction jacking and/or positraction stickers that don't start to lift around the edges?
Mine are on only a few months and they are already lifting and this is after applying on one year old cured paint so it's certainly not solvents.

Thanks!

Restoration / PBT stamp height
« on: September 01, 2016, 04:33:20 PM »
I'm helping a friend with putting on the PBT stamp marks to his '67. Looking at the stamp they look too large, IMO. The actual character contact height is 1" tall. I compared it to a tracing of mine taken back in the early 80's and they measure approximately .8" tall. He got these from Ricks. Does or can anyone confirm if 1" is correct compared to my .8" trace? I'm holding off on doing the actual stamp until I can confirm this.

Thanks!

Restoration / Body shim thickness
« on: July 27, 2016, 02:37:34 PM »
In the '67 AIM I see only one shim referenced (P/N 3711834) for fender shims and they measure to approximately 1/8" thickness. All of the shims I have are original (square outside edges with some stamped 'P') but one in a stack I have has a square outside edge (no stamp) and is only 1/16" thick. I suspect I may have added that back in the 80's when I first restored the convertible but I can't say for sure.
Has anyone seen an original Camaro shim thickness other than 1/8"?

Thanks,
Mike

Garage Talk / Old car movie links (from Team Camaro)
« on: July 14, 2016, 12:45:18 PM »
Kevin, at Team Camaro, posted this very interesting link to various car related movie clips.

So far, of the few I watched I found this one about Fisher very interesting though it was in 1950.

Garage Talk / Camaro 50th anniversary article
« on: July 09, 2016, 10:37:25 PM »
I found this today about the Camaro.
Can anyone comment on the second photo which shows what looks like spraying on the main body manually with the front fenders positioned in front?
Was that for prototype cars?

Garage Talk / Was a warranty replacement carb P/N the same
« on: June 17, 2016, 12:45:41 PM »
Hi Guys,

A few friends and I had a conversation over a beer (well...a few beers) about carburetors and fuel injectors between old and new Camaros. It then shifted to the Rochester Q-jet and how it has seen so many revision changes even during a given model year. The question that came up and we really couldn't agree on an answer was; if a car came off the assembly line with a certain P/N Q-jet, then went in for service later and it was determine the carb needed replacement, would it have been replaced with the newer revision P/N if it was in production at that time? Also, John Z had mention a large recall for Q-Jets related to the heat slot design and subsequent issues that followed it. Would those carbs too have been replaced with the superseded newer revision carb?

Below are 2 hypothetical examples: For a 67 350/295 w/AT/AIR there were early, mid, late versions. Let's say a car came with the early version 7037202.
Example 1: The car goes in for warranty service towards the end of the '67 model production run and the carb is found to be at fault. Is it replaced with a 7037202 or the newer 7037218.
Example 2: If the same car with the 7037202 had to have the carb replaced in 1969, would the replacement still be a 7037202 or 218?

Thanks,
Mike

Garage Talk / Interesting video on how the Stingray is assembled
« on: June 07, 2016, 09:28:11 PM »
I had seen this posted in the SPI group and though it is about a Stingray I still found it very interesting to see a mixture of automation and human intervention especially how the engine is assembled at Tonawanda.

Decoding/Numbers / LOS TB (no P) inspection tag possibility?
« on: April 29, 2016, 01:24:30 PM »
Hello list,
While putting some of my 67's LOS found documents in another storage safe, I glanced through them (as I have done many times before) and then it suddenly hit me about this one tag. I understand LOS did not use the PBT ink stamps on the firewall, but could this have been how those inspections were done at LOS? Aside from the missing 'P' box, which maybe was due to how Fisher operated at LOS  (vs. NOR) as per John Z, could the 'B' & 'T' stand for Body and Trim? It looks like the punch is 'SS', which I assume is the inspectors identification, though coincidentally enough the car is an SS. The 556 hand written numbers are the last 3 digits on the cars trim tag in the body number location and as listed on the UOIT. The 1 & 2 boxes could possibly be 1st and 2nd shift?

About the water stain......when I first bought the car I never looked for any paperwork because at that time it wasn't so important. One day I got caught in a heavy rain storm and the next day I found the carpet very wet by the drivers foot. After removing the console and rug I found a group of papers inside a folded thicker document that I learned later from Kurt was the UOIT. This was taped to the tunnel and even has some sort of body over-spray along one edge. Some of the documents, including this tag, were wet. Oh, the cause of the leak was a very loose steering column to firewall rubber seal.

Anyways, just curious about if this is the way Fisher at LOS inspected their cars.

This was posted in another forum today and even though it shows 65 Mustangs being assembled, I found the assembly scenes quite interesting. Note the spraying area and the water wall within it.
After hearing the song I need to put on the movie The Warriors now  ;)
