Restoration / Windshield trim clips
« on: January 16, 2019, 02:18:08 PM »
When I removed the door sill trim to see how the speaker wire was run (shown in THIS THREAD), I found a few of these windshield trim clips in the wire gutter channel by the kick panel.
I figured post it here as a FYI.

General Discussion / 67 Pace Car legit?
« on: January 12, 2019, 03:11:53 PM »
I don't usually track tags on eBay but this one caught my eye. I have never seen a trim tag with a vertical alignment so high that it slightly overlaps the GMC stamping. Maybe it was due to the way these were built and possibly didn't use the same addressograph that was used on the production line?
Does this look legit? The VIN on the block looks sort of like 7N207648

This was a very interesting article about GM's Lordstown plant history you may like.
It was disturbing how its line workers were treated at some point.

GM’s decline truly began with its quest to turn people into machines

Garage Talk / Is there an offset flywheel turning tool?
« on: October 23, 2018, 03:46:23 PM »
Does anyone know if there exists an offset type of flywheel turning tool? I'm looking to get something that can turn the flywheel while the bell housing (manual transmission) is still installed. The tool I have requires it to be secured directly under the wheel and the bell housing will not allow that due to limited clearance.

Thanks!

Garage Talk / Anyone use a go-cam?
« on: October 09, 2018, 02:21:23 PM »
Does anyone use a go-cam in their car? I'm looking at getting one but see so many out there.
Nothing special.....just a low profile windshield mounted camera for the '67 for things like cruising.

Thanks!

Restoration / Found a direct replacement for the door glass roller
« on: October 05, 2018, 09:40:09 PM »
Sorry for the long winded write-up.......I wanted to share this with you in regards to the door window guide roller.
At the last show I had my car in, I was rolling the windows up when the judge came by and the drivers door window suddenly jammed about 1/2 way up. I could also see the front edge was out of the channel. The judge was cool about it and even commented that the guide roller probably cracked. He was close as the rollers center was cracked and allowed the stud to pop out when the door closed and the glass in the down position.
After doing a long search on eBay and other Camaro suppliers for an exact roller and not finding any, I stumbled across one vendor that had what I needed. The listing is for a late model Camaro as well as other GM cars. I took a chance and ordered a pack of 4 (the smallest package they sold for $11) because the dimensions they showed looked almost exact.
In a nutshell, when I got the rollers (mounted on studs) I put one on the vice to straddle the jaws and with a nail countersink, gave the stud end a firm hit with a mallet and popped it out of the roller. Being I didn't want to remove the side glass completely to drill out the stud, I slid the new roller down the slide from the top and lined up the original stud (with a little grease) with the roller opening and grabbed the slide and window frame area and gave a good squeeze until I heard a healthy "pop".  No more glass falling off the slide and the window rolls up/down smoothly.
Here is the seller's ad for an 6-pack (ask them if they will sell 4):

I hope this helps others with worn door guide rollers.

Restoration / Repro vs. NOS spiral shock tube
« on: September 23, 2018, 12:01:45 AM »
I know some folks look for the correct numeric fonts to stamp a Julian date into a reproduction spiral shock, but I figure what's the point if you can easily spot a repro. Here is a picture of a reproduction Hugger Performance spiral shock next to a NOS (late 67 date) spiral shock to show the difference. As you can see, the NOS spiral in the tube is much wider and deeper compared to the reproduction.  That should make it easy to spot a real or a repro.

Garage Talk / Digital automotive meter recommendations?
« on: September 05, 2018, 12:52:44 AM »
My trusty Sears/ Penske analog tuneup meter failed with a bad meter after decades of use.
I was looking at a modern replacement but have read several reviews about digital meters and many have a common complaint of erratic RPM and dwell measurements. The only analog meters I see on eBay are used and I'm reluctant to take a chance. Can anyone recommend a digital meter with a stable readout? My primary goal is dwell and RPM for tuneups.

Thanks!

Does anyone know the reasoning behind the spiral body design of the spiral shocks?
Just curious.

Originality / BBC 3856284 short water pump impeller comparison
« on: April 15, 2018, 01:46:56 AM »
I had to rebuild the 3856284 water pump on the L35 due to some coolant seeping out of the weep hole from a faulty seal.
I decided to post pics of what an original impeller looks like compared to the metal ones in the rebuild kits for those who have an interest or just curious. I reused the original impeller. The factory P/N is 3921939.

General Discussion / 60's registration sticker
« on: March 27, 2018, 02:16:20 PM »
Hello Group,

I've been searching this topic and get conflicting answers from people I ask locally.
The question is: The small license plate sticker seen on, let's say NY or California 60's plates, is the sticker month/year when registration was issued -or- the month/year of registration expiration.

Thanks!

General Discussion / Where or what is this picture of?
« on: February 07, 2018, 03:34:52 PM »
Looking at the body shape, it appears to be a '68 F-body.
Does anyone know where this was or was it a special line to be spraying the body (done usually at Fisher) and the buck-mounted nose (painted on the Chevy side)? The dash top definitely looks masked.

Just curious,
Mike
