Originality / 67 lug nut wrench marking
« on: February 13, 2021, 07:34:27 PM »
I was looking at my 67 04B LOS jack  (mast date is D 7) and noticed the lug wrench has a backwards U 7
The paint is definitely gloss black and the paint stripe appears to be orange.
I don't know if lug wrench markings have been discussed before, but here is one for future reference.

Restoration / 1967 Badge datum line identification
« on: April 27, 2020, 01:18:17 AM »

I'm helping a friend drill a fender for the 327 w/flags badge. In looking at the AIM below I see two datum lines #5 and #15. The #5 line is referenced from the center hole for the CAMARO badge, so that easy to locate. But the #15 line is of question. I can't see in the AIM page where it's referenced from to determine the base.

  Any help is surely appreciated!

Restoration / Spark plug metal finish restoration
« on: April 21, 2020, 05:13:35 PM »

I was able to purchase a set of NOS '67 vintage (per the box date) of AC 43N Fire Ring plugs for a low cost because they had slight oxidation on the metal bases. Examining the base metal finish it appears to have been blued. I used EvapoRust
to soak the plugs in for 15 minutes then cleaned with a fine brass brush and rinsed. Then the metal was treated with Birchwood Casey gun blue liquid for 30 seconds to restore the finish. This actually works great and the plugs look new again. Comparing these 'restored' plugs to another NOS set I have that's in great condition, the finish darkness matches (almost black).

Originality / Correct shape upper radiator hose for 67 BB w/K19
« on: February 12, 2020, 06:15:10 PM »
After doing a lot of searching for the correct shape hose and not finding one, I'll post the question here.
For the 67 (68?) 396 owners that have the K19 smog pump and dual belt drive alternator, what type of upper radiator hose are you using?
Below is a picture of the upper radiator hose that has been on my car since I bought it in 1980. Looking at the factory clamps (dated 1/67) I believe this hose is original. Notice the shape which easily clears the double alternator belts. I also attached a picture of the restored 67 396 w/o K19 and the hose is shaped differently and appears to be what is available today.
Though the hose shape available today clears the single alternator belt, it looks like it will be dangerously close to the double belt drive of the K19 Camaro.

Restoration / When would the SPL spring washer not be used?
« on: February 12, 2020, 01:28:35 PM »
I was taking inventory for what hardware might have to be replaced if I decided to restore the original 67 LOS coupe, and while reading the 67 AIM something puzzled me. In the attached picture I see mention 'Spring washer (when used'). I checked my original 04B LOS and restpred 05B NOR and the washers exist on all 4 mount points and have the indented bolts. The question is, when would those spring washers not be used?

Restoration / Do AMK hood bumpers have lettering?
« on: January 26, 2020, 02:09:13 AM »
Has anyone purchased the GM # 3792828 hood bumpers from AMK (AMK #B-10231)  and if so, do they have lettering on the top?
I see in the catalog picture what appears to be small lettering but I can't make out what they are.

Thanks!

Maintenance / Reusing original upper and lower steel radiator rails
« on: January 17, 2020, 12:08:51 AM »
The original radiator on my '67 needs a re-core. Looking at the top and bottom steel rails that span between the L&R side tanks and have the dimple in the center, they appear to be attached to the fins that are up against them. Has anyone successfully had their radiator re-cored using the original dimpled steel rails transferred to the new core?

Thanks!

For 1967 motors using the separate oil filter & housing, was the filter on the motor when it was sprayed at the factory?
I figured by the time it was sprayed, it had gone through its bench test, hence the need for oil.
This question probably relates to 68-69 spin-on filters too.

Thanks,
Mike

Decoding/Numbers / 67 Pacer or Faker?
« on: October 16, 2019, 11:21:48 PM »
I stumbled across this alleged 67 Pace Car.
"It was a factory 350 car but it now has a 70 Model 396/375 HP"
I'm not up on how Pacers were assigned VIN's but the body tag 05A and VIN don't seem to align. Maybe because the car was supposed to originally have been an SS 350 and the trim tag is a 4K  ???
The VIN is 124677N236170
The blue kick panels were obviously sprayed painted and the spare tire hold-down plate looks to have been mounted in the wrong position judging from the spare location. Lots of thick undercoat to hide who knows what.

The car can be seen here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1967-Chevrolet-Camaro/133199029047
Pretty lady....and so is the car

Garage Talk / Anyone use a dash pad cover?
« on: August 06, 2019, 08:53:46 PM »
I'm looking at custom dash top/pad covers from Covercraft to keep on top of the original dash pad for non-show use.
Anyone use something like that?

Thanks,
Mike

Garage Talk / What's going on behind your stock diff cover?

I came across this video and thought you may find it interesting.
We all know what happens inside a differential, but have you ever seen it real-time?

General Discussion / Shackle bolts reversed?
« on: February 10, 2019, 08:38:47 PM »

I've noticed my 67 LOS shackle bolts are installed opposite from what the AIM shows.
Has anyone else seen shackle bolts assembled reverse when compared to the AIM?
When I get around to restoring this car, do you think keeping the reverse installation the same (with a before picture to prove) to preserve its own unique assembly anomalies would get docked points?

Originality / Rosette shape variances in 67
« on: February 10, 2019, 03:35:25 PM »

This is an offspring from the post here titled 1967RS http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=17291.msg157465#new
I have raised the topic of the rivet and how the round shape would make one assume it was off the car. I counter that being I have been in that situation myself with my unrestored 67 LOS and have since researched and found several examples ranging from a very faint rosette shape to round. In the picture posted below you can see several examples of round and.or a slight shape of a rosette pattern. Surprisingly many are from LOS  and one from NOR.
My belief is that so many were stamped and with the technology back then, I am sure many were produced due to worn dies but still used. And seeing what looks like a round rivet may actually show slight ridges when viewed in person which is why pictures make it hard to show. I am not talking about the Home Depot rivets that stand obviously stand out.
Attached are two pictures with one being a reference to a typical rosette pattern clearly visible and the other with the few examples of where the patter is not so well defined or not there.
