Restoration / Need Help and advise fixing broken Tic Toc Tach
« on: February 16, 2014, 06:48:28 PM »
What should I do? The needle is broken on my Tic Toc Tach on my 1968 z28, replacing the tach with a reproduction is the last thing I want to do. I would rather repair my original. All input, experiences and advise will be appreciated.

I just bought a complete numbers matching 68 z28 drivetrain, uh radiator to 12 bolt rearend 4 leaf springs, including altanator and power steering.
The car it came out of was totaled over 35 years ago,
My question is what to do with this stuff .......
Sell to someone with a great need?
Make a clone z28,
Find a documented z without its original drivetrain?
Or what ... I would really appreciate help finding the best use of these rare parts
Thanks in advance

« on: January 22, 2013, 09:33:16 PM »
This block has been on craigslist and ebay for a while now, Its a k/29/7  cast date...VO15MO or April 15 production date
November to April how does that happen? Most blocks are cast and stamped in less than a week and some even on the same day
BTW the vin is 18N419039

Hey Guys I'm trying to put my 1111467 distributor back original I have a 532 points cam but I need to know which shaft was correct and what number it would have stamped on it or other identifying markings.
Also I have numerous centrifical weights how do you identify the correct ones for  the z28 shaft, points cam combination. According to gmwiki.com sbc used several different numbers, all the ones I have seem to all have the same profile. Were there different profiles or different weights?

Originality / I need help with my 1111467 8a3 Distributor 1968 z28
« on: July 23, 2012, 10:56:22 PM »
My distributor has the wrong shaft, cam and probably the springs and weights as well. with the parts being so hard to find what are my options?
Modify parts? Get reproductions? Try to find used? ha The shaft in it is a 786w the cam is a 728. I also have a 119w shaft and a 536 cam.
What is the optimal set up for street use in regards to advance curve and the vacuum advance.
Thanks in advance for the wisdom of the masses

Restoration / Re Tic Toc Tach parts

Does anyone  know where I can buy the shaft and knob assembly for the clock on my 1968 tic toc tach?

Beware this post is somewhat of a rant ...........
Even though 68 zs  are much more rare, they rarely bring the money of the 69s, WHY?
Is it because of GM not coding it on the cowl tag?
Or is because people like the 69 body better?
The 67 and 68z shared basically the same body, 67 z28s bring super money because of their  rarity,
Will the 68 z ever get the appreciation it deserves?
Just wanted to see other opinions

General Discussion / N40 steering Box
« on: February 10, 2012, 10:30:56 PM »
RE N40 steering Box on a z28
Anybody know with the box off the car or steering not attached, how many turns of the steering wheel shaft lock to lock, I am assuming that with it connected it would be less since the spindles would hit the stops.
Would it also be different with z28 short knuckle arms and long pitman arm.
Bottom line I am trying to find (identify) a fast ratio box for a 68 z28
Thanks In advance
