Wow, I can't remember the last time I have replied to a post.
But I did see both cars at MCACN. I noticed the tail pan was spot welded to the quarter on the white car. I have never seen that before.
Everything else looked untouched in the area, as in all factory manufacturing. Maybe a rookie or broken equipment that day??   George

Lloyd, Yes I did replace the trunk panel in my car. Had too many rust pin holes. What differences are you seeing?
The water shield you refereed to from Repo's is black, not at all like brown craft paper. After the glue dried on mine I sprayed with WD40 and wrinkled it slightly, looked just like the originals I have seen. George

I was racking my brain trying to remember where I found this tar material, I think it was from a company called RePops. I bought a loose bulk piece. It was much better than regular tar paper. I got some brown craft paper and glued it to the top side. I will post a couple pictures showing how it turned out and one with rough dimensions. Here is a third picture of a very nice original. George

Sorry to drag up an old post, but I felt this was the correct place to post these pictures.
I just came back from another fabulous MCACN show, and was drawn in by a totally original 489 mile 1972 Corvette. One of the things I wondered about was how the bypass hose was painted.
It is a cast iron intake manifold and the hose was entirely covered in paint. Remembered this post and wanted to share. George

This car is one of the most original 396's I have ever seen, other than a couple things under the hood. It is owned by "black69" a member here. Steve from Vintage Certification may have looked at the car at MCACN. It has been verified as original paint. George

I looked back thru this discussion and noticed several pictures are missing, so I thought I would repost this picture of an original paint 69 with 5k.
Clearly shows gloss difference between body and rear panel. Happy New Years guys! George

Danny it was nice to meet & talk at the show, wish I had more time. Your car is amazing, loved the photo book you put together, I am sure the judges did also.
Congratulations on your score makes all your hard work gratifying now. I enjoyed talking with you & girl friend. Next year I will plan on spending 2 days, one for socializing one for checking cars out. George

Andy I screwed up, those are not the drain holes, I should have looked at my car before posting. Here is the correct picture of mine and I found the picture of the original hood pad I mentioned. George

My car originally had studs by the seam, may be someone knocked them off during a repair. May just be the picture but I am not seeing a lot of the factory lead on the seam itself?
