Decoding/Numbers / Re: VIN tag problem
« on: February 09, 2023, 10:02:44 PM »
All you have to do is cut both hidden vin section out of trashed parts car and weld it in both areas on car where hidden vins are, that’s been done over and over. Very common when people change cowl sections on the actual car that a certain vin came from originally. You also often see vins and trim tags for sale with metal sections from a beyond repair car.

The only thing I see that makes it harder and harder to do that is people like William!

I would say, nobody should ever buy a 1969 camaro without checking with William first!

Nos and nice original 6 cylinder and Saginaw three speed parts are getting very hard to find now a days (maybe  because I bought them all up over the last 25 years myself) pm me if you need anything…if I have it and you need it for this car, I will send it to you for free.
I myself, really like original cars everything from 396 big blocks to 230 6 bangers.

So anytime I see someone trying to stay original I feel a bit guilty for hoarding so many parts over the years.
Everybody seems to ask a lot for factory correct nos parts nowadays and I certainly don’t blame them because of the price sellers have to pay to get them and the fact that supply has really been dwindling over the years.
When I bought most of these parts including sheet metal parts they were very inexpensive compared to today, therefore I would rather see them go on original cars.

Restoration / Re: Front sway bar and springs

Thank for the knowledge, thanks Jim for pointing out the end links, I will now change to correct ones.

my goal is to restore this car to look like a brand new factory unrestored show room new car. (Not over restored). Original dated sheet metal everywhere, ALL nuts and bolts factory correct originals, all components assembly line correct and dated as build date on trim tag, factory painted as the factory would have, only exception being base coat clear coat paint.

Looks great, is the color White  or Capri cream? It’s hard to tell in the picture.

I know….this car pretty much needs everything. I really hate to past it up because of all the factory options however after hard consideration I decided if I can’t get stripped car for $7500 or less I would have to pass.

My opinion is that the manual is very good and I have learned some things I didn’t know.
I’m glad I purchased it.

Thanks for clearing that up….that makes sense. I just assumed that all pictures shown had factory correct finishes. So I just thought that Norwood cars and LA cars had different finishes.
I kept all the original parts that were on my car from the factory and looked very close at the springs for any signs of paint and didn’t see any.

Thanks  Jim, What dose UNC and UNF stand for?
The end links have been on this car since 1991 (32 years) Its funny that they are considered “modern”, the front springs I  believe I bought from Heinrich Chevrolet in 1991 they are just unpainted natural steel that have just aged a bit over time and have a slight tinge of tarnish. This car has been in temperature conditioned room for the last 34 years. I have also realized over the years that it doesn’t mater even if the parts are GM replacement parts bought from Chevrolet dealership they are still not the same as the factory originals.

It does not specify which one is correct ….it shows pictures of what they judge and how many points for each category. I just assumed both were correct. Although one appears to be a 1968 other appears to be 1967 by looking at control arm bumpers. I’m not sure if they were different for ear year..

These two photos are from “Legends Judging Manual” 1967 & 1968….one spring looks exactly like mine other is black….not sure what ones correct or are neither exactly correct?

Do the springs look correct here? They are not painted however are heat tempered steel.
Also would sway bar be satin or gloss black?

It’s definitely a Flintstone car….there is not much salvaging of original sheet metal, trim tag, “useable” cowl structure and born with drivetrain is essentially what it is.

Also owner does know what it is, he has been honest and forthright on everything about car. I do want current owner to make money on deal, this car is one of 6 flippers he bought in package deal.

I do realize it’s upside down on value of at least $40,000 when finished that’s why I was hoping to get it for a decent price. My gut tells me not to buy….My desire tells me I’m the best buyer for this  car. That’s why I’m here asking for group thoughts.

It would also have to sit for a bit while I finish other car.
