General Discussion / Cross Ram 1968 RS Z28 at Mecum
« on: September 09, 2017, 01:11:40 AM »
Does anyone know about the Tripoli Turquoise 1968 RS Z28 that sold at Mecum - Pre-production or experimental Cross - ram and original Goodyear tires.  Sold for $90 k, surprised with those rare options that it didn't go higher.

General Discussion / Re: Recommendations for Painting Metal Dash

Top part of the dash should be "suede finish" SEM makes a product that doesn't do a bad job - it is their textured paint.  Front part of the dash could use their trim paint or something a bit glossier

Knowing the casting date helps in a situation where the block has been decked. Obviously, not totally but the right date should help.

Don't know if they have a phosphate kit. But Caswell Plating does have black oxide, bluing, and cad plating. Number is 855-CASWELL or look online for Caswell Plating, Lyons NY

Great Discussion. I realize NCRS accepts re-stamped blocks in their judging. I was wondering what members thoughts are regarding Camaro judging. Z28's, COPOs,  and L-78's were raced or at least driven hard so their engines and drive trains have been replaced in a lot if not most cases. The 1967 and later Norwood trim tags identify what came with the car.  What about the owner of a COPO or Z/28 who wanted his car judged in Legend Concours or another top flight event and had a block stamped to match the car ? What sort of penalty should be assessed if the block casting and date code are correct but the pad restamped ? Or the pad restamped to match the POP ? And should a heavier penalty be warranted if the restamping is not disclosed ? Again, these are cars being judged, not being marketed. And I realize that a lot of cars will use their scores to justify a higher price in the market at some point.

Maintenance / Console Temp Guage won't go off Cold
« on: April 14, 2017, 02:18:44 PM »
Everything worked before I took the car apart. Now the temp guage does not work.  Replaced the temp sender. Replaced the resistor on the guage. All new wiring.  Removed teflon tape from sender. Grounding the sender sends the guage up one quarter.  What else could be wrong. It was a working guage before. Thanks

Question would be if the car was entered in a restored class or a survivor class. And question would also be whether the bumper was original or NOS. If it was an original, non NOS bumper entered into a restored class then I can see the issue. I left the GM stickers with the part numbers on the inside of my bumpers to authenticate them as NOS. Still the chrome isn't as nice as a rechromed original. And even if rechromed, one has to be aware of any repairs that were made that are not perfect.

Original trays with the tab and also the original style hold downs are a judged standard in Legends

General Discussion / Re: Real Indy Pace Car or not?
« on: December 31, 2016, 09:51:20 PM »
I have owned 2 pace cars without guages.  It was an option and not one of the mandatory options like the ZL2 hood or Rally Wheels. Should have a wood grain dash though
