If they save you from restoring something incorrectly and then fix it, or save you from buying a part that is incorrect for your application - then they are well worth it. The cost virtually doubled between the 69 Manual and the 67/68 Manual. We did not cut any corners in printing the manuals. Spiral binding is all labor intensive but so much better for the restorer than the hard binder.  Plus the quality of the paper that does not smudge easily

Also check the Legends Judging Manual for photos of both console and non console duct work

Steve Shauger lives on Long Island. He does the Vintage Certification for MCACN and the Nationals. He would be the one to contact, especially for original or survivor car

The 1969 Legends Judging Manual has been available since November, 2021. The 67/68 has been available since November, 2022. Both can be purchased through the Camaro Association's website or to be shipped thru the link. Also, the manuals can be purchased from any of the Legends judges.  All proceeds when purchased thru these sources go towards the judging program and to support the Nationals.

Manuals can also be purchased from three Camaro parts vendors.

Camaro Legends is the 5000 point concours judging program at the Nationals. Cars are judged for what is "assembly line correct" This will be the 24th year of Legends judging, prior to that it was the Red White & Blue of the ICC.

We are more than grateful for the work of the CRG.

The Assembly manuals are great resources. But they don't show the level of detail needed when doing a "correct" restoration. The Legends manuals cover component finishes, specific appearances of hardware, and more. I don't know another resource that goes into the detail of the interior or trunk compartment. Not to mention the undercarriage and engine compartment. Plus all the changes in components over the course of the model year and there are a lot.  And we show all this with great color photos.

We thought we did a great job with the 1969 manual. We chose not to duplicate block casting #'s, alternator #'s etc which were readily available elsewhere.  We put more into the 67/68 manual for photos. And we also chose to list some of the lesser known component #'s such as pulleys, the 3 quadrajet versions, and fuel pumps. I think the 67/68 Legends Manual is over the top but I have a bias.

Originality / 1969 Front License Plate Bracket Stamping
« on: February 18, 2023, 05:07:52 PM »
Most of the 1969 front license plate brackets I have come across were stamped with a C on each side of the bottom of the bracket. Have seen some with no stamping. The small AAC stamping appears on NOS service replacements from what I have seen. Was wondering if anyone has seen the AAC stamping on original brackets or other stampings ? thanks

Restoration / Re: Front sway bar and springs
« on: February 01, 2023, 12:06:33 AM »
Here is the description of the front springs from the manual - Springs should be a natural finish, blued or dark phosphate. Paint is not acceptable.  The sway bar is painted semi-gloss black. When doing the manual, we tried to use photos of what would be correct. The 68 Z28 used was restored nearly 30 years ago. It was used to show the original body panels with spot welds ( especially rear wheel wells), original interior, and original engine and components.  Back then, bare steel painted springs were acceptable. The photo above was used to show the original tie rod adjuster and hardware. Repos are different Could not avoid getting the spring in the background. Nor could it readily be taken out and have a correct finish put on.  The sway bar links in the photos have the correct finish.  Please look at what the photos are being used for with the captions. Not perfect but go with the descriptions

Sway bar would be satin or semi-gloss. No the springs do not look right

Sway bar is painted black. Springs should be heat tempered steel with a bluish black finish. Not painted black

The manual covers a lot of what you would look for in judging a base car - exterior, interior, underneath, suspension, rear housing, etc. For the six cylinder engine, some of what is covered would carry over such as the finish on the coil and its bracket, plating on the monojet. Specifics like the fan shroud, fan we don't cover.  If you are restoring a car or buying a restored car, then this is the resource for you. Or if you are buying a 67, it would be nice to know if it has the correct rear quarter panels, since there are three different styles. Same thing with other transition items.

I would be glad to help with any questions. We did not want to repeat readily available information, such as trim tag codes or engine codes.

General Discussion / 1967 & 1968 Camaro Legends Judging Manual

I have received so many positive comments about the Camaro Legends Judging Manual. Lots of nice feedback on what is covered for originality, the depth of information, and the loads of high quality photos. I need to thank the owners for the cars featured - Robert Elke with his Z28's, Doug Perry - 1967 Yenko, Paul Laurenzi - 1968 Z28, Chick Renn - 1968 Z28 and Larry Christensen - 1967 Pace Car. My 68 Z28 had the most photos - great shots of the original spot welds for the body panels, original interior shots, and miscellaneous photos of original parts. Plus what we look for with restored photos - alternator, master cylinder/booster, trunk compartment. Think Paul was the only other with such great photos for originality. Can't beat the combination of photos of originality combined with what we are looking at when judging concours restored cars. Best comment - "The must have book for anyone restoring a Camaro or wanting to know what is correct"
