Restoration / Re: Upper A-arm Splash Shields
« on: June 22, 2018, 03:27:49 PM »
I originally purchased a set from OER, but they were the typical "bicycle inner tube" material that didn't look right. I ended up purchasing the masticated rubber from Restoration Supply. I used the OER pieces as a template, since they matched the originals, and would lay flat on the sheet of masticated rubber so I could trace out the pattern. It took some time to cut everything out and replicate all of the original staple holes in the "new" masticated rubber shields. Hand made all of the staples to the original size from stainless steel wire. The trick is to not scratch the freshly painted inner fender, while you install everything. A very time consuming but worthwhile project.

General Discussion / Re: Holley Carburetor Question
« on: April 24, 2018, 06:25:02 PM »
This may be a little late for posting but I have some original bowls and you can have 1 just pay the shipping. I use Harold Demes for all my carb work and personally I think he is the best there is. So if you still need 1 send me a message .

Thank you for the offer. I heard back from one guy (who didn't have any). I'm waiting for a response from #2 and #3. I'll let you know how things turn out.

General Discussion / Re: Newbie Needs some help with a 69 Z 28
« on: April 21, 2018, 12:05:24 PM »
There was an 05A no tach Z/28 around here years ago. Maybe overlooked the omission.

Based on our records, U16 shows up early April. Wonder if some early '69s could have had it.

I've also got an 05A with no console, gauges, or tach. But it does have the deluxe comfortweave interior.

Thanks to all for the responses and suggestions. Vintage Muscle Car Parts looks like a good resource. I've got a couple of calls in to several folks on locating a good used bowl. I heard the replacement Holly units aren't made like the old stuff. However it's good to know that 4150 parts will work if I get in a pinch. With all of the Holley carbs that were manufactured over the years, I'm amazed that Holley didn't offer a kit with a small jig, drill & tap to re-drill the bowl and retrofit it with a larger screw. I can't be the first to have this problem. Thanks again guy's for all of the help.

General Discussion / Holley Carburetor Question
« on: April 20, 2018, 06:02:04 PM »
My original DZ Carb (#3923289 List 4053) has the sight plug threads stripped on the rear float bowl. I've tried to secure it with teflon tape in an attempt to try and tighten it up, but it still weeps a bit. In the CRG Report on carburetors it identifies the original (4053 carburetor)  as being a Holley 4150. So I'm assuming that a rear float bowl for a 4150 is interchangeable with the original 4053 carburetor? Is that correct?

Holley sells a replacement float bowl for a 4150 under their part number 134-102. I spoke with their tech's and they said it "should" work. However, I didn't want to order it on "should work" basis. Has anyone used the Holley 134-102 float bowl on their DZ carb?

Thank you.

68camaroz28 -  "Review several of the cars in the "Original Cars and Details" section. Several pictures there clearly show how to paint your trunk area and probably some pics for your door hinge area. There are some great survivors there and worth the effort to review. Picture worth a 1000 words."

Great idea. I'll take a look. Thank you!

That's good information. I didn't know there was a difference between the two plants. Thanks again for you help.

Restoration / Paint Color Question
« on: February 18, 2017, 09:19:14 PM »
I have a 1969 Z-28 that will be going into the paint booth soon and wanted to confirm a few details. I'm assuming that the door and trunk hinges and all bolts should all be painted the same as the body color. And the same goes for the trunk lid catch (part that is attached to the trunk lid). And that the trunk lid striker/latch (part that the lock attaches to) should be left as bare metal. I think the finish is or should be silver zinc plating. Is that correct? Thanks in advance for your help.

Originality / Re: !969 Z in MC magazine

I guess there were a lot of odd combinations back then. I've got an 05A build date with no tach, no console or gauges, but does have the custom comfortweave interior. Also has the D80 spoiler package but it's not listed on the tim tag.
