We have a very close friend that has a BB 69 Z/28. Its an X77 car he bought brand new in Virginia when he got out of the navy in mid-69 and went to work for another govt agency ( read spook) its your classic Z as its the base model, no frills non RS car,  flat hood, no spoiler etc. Only options are U17 and power steering with white interior. It was a true survivor with original exhaust system, suspension YH wheels, paint and interior but 3 years ago he had it repainted and new interior installed which I advised against but its not my car. He also removed the stock exhaust manifolds and smog equipment and installed headers but has all original parts stored away. He has all original paperwork including dealer invoice and POP. The emissions decal ( what is left of it) is on the top of the fan shroud? I'll try to shoot some pics to post here. Its a beautiful color and we park next to each other at the local Friday car cruises, everybody thinks we are twins except we have an X33 fathom green car but they look really great side by side!
Happy 4th of July to one and all. Fly the stars and stripes proudly

Restoration / 69 Camaro Air Filter
« on: June 07, 2012, 03:42:44 PM »
I have an original A212CW air filter that is used but in nice shape. Any way to clean/restore the paper element besides blowing air through it so it can be used?
Thanks

Thanks for the info. issue with AMK is they require a 30 dollar minimun order I ONLY need 2 bolts, so what do i do with the other 25 dollars worth of bolts I don't need, I have plenty of fishing weights. This is the reason why I am looking for another source for these bolts unless someone needs some screws/bolts etc and we can split and order?
Cheers

Restoration / 69 Camaro upper fender bolts
« on: June 01, 2012, 05:50:19 AM »
Howdy Troops,
I need 2 correct upper fender bolts that have captured washers and are at least 1 1/4 to 1 3/8 in diameter, the larger size washer the better. The heads can be 9/16th or 3/8ths. The lower bolts are the originals but switching them out does not solve the problem, just reverses it.
When the car was factory painted the original bolt/washers were large and left a paint halo. When we repainted the car some how the original uppers disappeared probably when refinished and not returned to us so smaller diameter washer ones were used, the halos sticks out like a sore thumb. I want to cover the halo with larger diameter but correct bolts with thin washers. I have tried AMK, Heartbeat city and every other place I can think of to try to find correct head stamped captured larger diameter washer bolts but no luck...............any suggestions or if you have some old bolts available I would truly appreciate it. The washers are thin not thick ones and the bolts are spear tipped not flat end. Bolt part # is 3963329 and clearly shown in the AIM.  You can PM me off board to discuss if you like.  Appreciate any help you can lend and thanks for taking a few minutes to help us out.
Best Regards from the sunny beach in So Cal.

What is the correct clocking position for the 69 wood wheel horn cap. White along the top edge or blue to the left, red right and white at bottom.
Thanks for the help

One reason for the flaps being laid on top and no tucked in is in our case our original 43 year old flaps are starting to tear slightly and I do not want to bend or twist them in case they tear more. I have yet to see a decent repro set but please prove me wrong if they actually do exist. I really do prefer not to remove original parts from a mostly original car unless absolutely necessary or NOS parts can be found as replacements.
just my 2 cents

Maintenance / Re: Fueling my '68 in Calif.

Plastic neck (filler hose) on 5 gal. jugs WILL NOT scratch your beautifully restored and painted rear panel or chrome bumper if its bounced around a bit like what can happen at the gas station pumps. Another plus with home fill ups is its also good exercise since a full 5 gal. jug weighs about 35Lbs.

Go Buy 5 Gallon or larger capacity fuel containers, fill them at the gas pump then take them home and pump your own gas right from the jugs.......easier to control and safer than not being able to get the pump nozzle to fit right. Some places like Gariots Garage ( sp) or California Car Cover or even Auto Zone may sell what you need. I bought my 5 gallon jugs at an auto swap meet. Use the jugs with the long neck like the dirt bikers do and it should work fine..........I live in So. Cal and it should not be a problem? Put some towels on the bumper to soak up any spillage and pour slowly and keep track of tank volume and what you have and put in to avoid overfilling. Good luck
