Restoration / Front spoiler repair 69
« on: September 18, 2012, 03:53:41 AM »
Not only did our VR fry yesterday and run down the battery but we had the car towed (no flat bed available for 3 hours) the tow driver did a great job except for the final driveway where the front edge of the spoiler lip rmade contact with that awfully hard concrete and it split the spoiler at the center bolt hole. I can refinish the paint scrap/scratches no problem but would like suggestions for the best repair material to fix the split and give it some strength......
Thanks for all the help

P.S. Yesterday 09/17 was an bad day but we did win first in "Pony Car" class at the Palos Verdes Concours here in So Cal and beat some incredibly amazing cars so the day was not a total bad experience! Now I just need to fix everything that got fouled up....oh the joys of owning a classic muscle car.

Restoration / 69 515 Voltage regulator R & R
« on: September 17, 2012, 07:49:04 PM »
Fried my VR this past weekend in the bad heat wave we are having here in So Cal. I recall in 2006 Mr John Pirkle rebuilt it for me. I understand he is no longer with us. Is there a rebuilder taking his place or can any CRG member recommend one or know of someone or who has hoarded stocks of these and has a 69 dated ( 9A) for sale.
Thanks for the help as always

Restoration / Kick Panel Knob 69 Z/28
« on: July 21, 2012, 05:00:07 AM »
My lower kick panel vent knob (drivers side) came apart in my hand today. Split right into 2 pieces. I checked a few aftermarket places but could only find the entire assembly with cable etc. Do the make the knobs separately?
If not I'll epoxy the 1/2's back together and not use it again.
Thanks for your input

I have an original A212CW air filter that is used but in nice shape. Any way to clean/restore the paper element besides blowing air through it so it can be used?
Thanks

Restoration / 69 Camaro upper fender bolts
« on: June 01, 2012, 05:50:19 AM »
Howdy Troops,
I need 2 correct upper fender bolts that have captured washers and are at least 1 1/4 to 1 3/8 in diameter, the larger size washer the better. The heads can be 9/16th or 3/8ths. The lower bolts are the originals but switching them out does not solve the problem, just reverses it.
When the car was factory painted the original bolt/washers were large and left a paint halo. When we repainted the car some how the original uppers disappeared probably when refinished and not returned to us so smaller diameter washer ones were used, the halos sticks out like a sore thumb. I want to cover the halo with larger diameter but correct bolts with thin washers. I have tried AMK, Heartbeat city and every other place I can think of to try to find correct head stamped captured larger diameter washer bolts but no luck...............any suggestions or if you have some old bolts available I would truly appreciate it. The washers are thin not thick ones and the bolts are spear tipped not flat end. Bolt part # is 3963329 and clearly shown in the AIM.  You can PM me off board to discuss if you like.  Appreciate any help you can lend and thanks for taking a few minutes to help us out.
Best Regards from the sunny beach in So Cal.

Maintenance / SB upper Alternator bracket removal
« on: March 05, 2012, 05:32:24 AM »
OK fellow 1st gen Camaro lovers I need some expert advice and or opinions for some R & R work................Are you able to remove the upper large alternator bracket (sb 302 motor) without removing the alternator or belt? From looking at how its assembled it appears the the lower bracket will hold the alternator unit in place and all you need to do is remove the 3 bolts holding the larger bracket in place. Remove it and then when refinished just reinstall it...Please let me know if that is correct or what is required................Thanks for all the input
Cheers

Restoration / Trunk Divider 69 Z28
« on: November 08, 2011, 02:16:03 AM »
My original divider is nice but was oversprayed with splatter paint related earlier on this forum. Doubtful  it can be cleaned or restored since the cardboard is 41 years old and will not stand up to sanding or lacquer thinner application to remove the overspray. Opinions wanted about who may make the most accurate and best repro divider. An NOS one is probably made of unobtanium!
Thanks for the tips
Enjoy your rides

Restoration / Trunk Divider
« on: October 25, 2011, 05:50:30 AM »
When the trunk was restored in my 69 Z it was oversprayed and the splatter paint is on the upright braces and on the exposed part of the divider. This is the original divider and I do not want to replace it with a repro piece. Trying to keep as many original parts in the car as possible! Any suggestions as to what I can use to try to get it back to the factory finish? maybe a coat of paint that's close to the original material finish or ??
Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks

Which is the correct cap,  the one with small ears or completely round with raised letters? Also if its the latter can they be restored and by whom?  Some surface rust on the face and handles and the inside brass breather has what apperas to be mold looking substance of some type or has just discolored white................Looks like one of those science experiments we did way back in grade or Jr. high school!

Maintenance / 69 Cleaning under the cowl grill
« on: October 02, 2011, 04:11:03 PM »
Got caught in a freak rain squall that blew threw last Friday 09/30. Was at a local show and by the time I ran back to the car she was soaked. I wanted to put some towels over the grills but to late. Now the light road dust that was not really noticeable is muddy appearing on the white paint. The depth from the top of the grills to the base of the cowl is 5" Any suggestions how to get in between the grills to clean this up short of taking the entire cowl panel off.
Suggestions and tips are always appreciated
