Trans-Am Camaros / Re: Photo Gallery for A/Sedan and A-B/Production cars

I had heard that it was an ex-Chapparal Camaro also.

At this race Warren was the fastest A Sedan qualifier with Sid Rust 2nd fastest.  In the race, Warren and Sid had a great battle until Warren's motor broke. It appeared it would be an easy win for Sid as he had a large lead in A Sedan. But everybody forgot about David Jungerman in the Baby Tenda Camaro (ex-Walter Parkins Camaro). David started dead last and charged though the field to catch Sid Rust and go on to win A Sedan.

Warren Fairbanks Camaro in the tech line at the 1975 June Sprints.

Warren is the taller man standing to the left of the car with Arnie Fick to his left and engine builder Read Sinclair in the lighter shirt. Sid Rust's Camaro can be seen just above the roof stripe of Warren's car.

The photo is taken by Jack Finucan, from the Mike Jarchow collection.

I remember this car having a very distinct sound, similar to having 180 degree headers.  The exhaust wasn't visible as the car passed like most, just exiting underneath somewhere.

Keefe did say he got the car at a junk yard in Wisconsin.

I don't know many of the Javelin facts, but in 2005 I was visiting a friend in Arizona that owns Keefe Performance.  At that time he had Craig Jackson's unusual Javelin at his shop, preparing it for a test at Firebird.  He told me that car was originally one of the Kaplan cars that had become a Penske mule and was never raced by Penske.  Not sure at what point the body was partially changed, either by Penske or perhaps whoever began a restoration.

The 1980 calender picture in the ebay auction was taken at IRP.  Chip Boatwright (sp) was the driver when the picture was taken.

The John Mahler GT-350 was originally owned by Arnie Fick from Chicago.  John Mahler sold it to Bill Paul and it was the last GT-350  to run in SCCA National competition into the 1980's.

I would love to see more pics of the ex-Woods Camaro when Les Lindley owned it.

Notice the mufflers.  I seem to remember that was a rule at Waterford Hills.

I don't know much about Yenko Stingers, but during that era the Bill O'Connor usually was the fastest D/Production car at Central Division events.  I don't remember the colors for sure, maybe blue and silver, or blue and white.

Trans-Am Camaros / Jerry Titus 1970
« on: January 05, 2012, 06:13:44 PM »
As an 8 year old at the Road America Trans Am in 1970, I spotted Jerry Titus sitting in a street Firebird with his wife near the team's pit.  I asked Jerry for his autograph on the cover of my program, which ended up with many autographs inside of it as the weekend progressed.

The next day Jerry crashed his Firebird at corner 12.  This is one of my most treasured pieces of history.

Robert,

Jerry still has the car. In fact, Max drove it for a couple of years in regionals and nationals in 1988 and 1989.
