Restoration / Seam sealer
« on: February 08, 2014, 02:13:18 AM »
Any recommendations on which sealer to use. Some reviews say the Eastwood never cured or the two part was to watery. 3M Fast and Firm or is there something else. Brush on or caulking gun application? I'm not looking for original factory look, just a good seal.

Wow that had to hurt, but I'm sure you'll work it out. I know hind sight is 20/20 but maybe a magnet would have helped? "TRUST BUT VERIFY"

Thanks, 4 to choose from?? Anyway, for future reference this is what I came up with, both Timken, pitman shaft 313842 and input shaft 480821.

Restoration / Re: Correct top of door window opening dimension ???
« on: December 14, 2013, 10:50:42 PM »
Dave

My original door measures 1 9/16 on either end and 1 13/16 in the center. The door has the curve to it. I would install the windows and the weather strip along the door skin to be certain. Also the top of the glass at the roof since you pushed the inner door, wind noise sucks.

Have you tried All American Classics, they were dismantling 1st gen Camaros a while back. They're up in Vancouver Wa. I talked to Tod who was very helpful and made sure I got exactly what I wanted. 800-955-4999 www.allamericanclassics.com

Restoration / Re: welding on cast iron
« on: November 05, 2013, 03:41:21 AM »
Hi Gary,

I used to work for Metal Locking Service, a casting repair company. I would say that if there's room to drill a hole in the crack that it can be repaired. We've repaired heads where the crack went across the valve seat and up into the port and blocks with holes in them by putting in a new piece of iron. The repair can be ground flush so it's less noticeable. No idea on cost anymore but I would prefer it to welding. Not a DIY project.

No paint on the adjusting sleeves or short tie rod ends, only on the longer left hand thread ends.

Is there any significance to the paint markings on the tie rod ends?

Maintenance / Manual steering box seals
« on: September 25, 2013, 03:23:45 AM »
Does anyone have after market seal numbers for a '68 manual steering box? $35.00 for a couple of seals seems a bit pricey, half that amount would should be more like it.
