Restoration / 68 Steering column part
« on: February 27, 2019, 11:02:19 PM »
I'm rebuilding my steering column, non column shift, and can't locate this gourmet or insulator. Does anyone have a source or a shade tree fix?

Garage Talk / Welder won't feed wire
« on: January 05, 2019, 09:53:14 PM »
Anyone have the problem of no wire feed? I've got a Eastwood MIG 135, pull the torch trigger and the gas solenoid clicks but no power to the wire feed motor. Any help would be appreciated.

Restoration / Repair or replace fenders
« on: April 06, 2018, 11:28:04 AM »
I'm debating whether to repair or replace the front fenders. How do the fenders that are made now fit and look. I got a dash panel from AMD and was really disappointed with it. My original fenders are rusted out at the bottom and have a couple of small dings that need some hammer and dolly work and of course the blasting for surface rust. I'm a mechanic not a body man. Just to have someone do the patch would cost as much as a new fender.

Restoration / panel adhesive

I've never used a panel adhesive and want to use it on the dash panel to cowl on my '68. Would 50ml be enough?

Originality / Were different vendors used for wheel hubs
« on: August 25, 2014, 03:16:21 AM »
'68 with front disc brakes. Were different vendors used for the hubs? Both have GM bolts attaching the rotors but the head markings are different and one hub is machined around the od on the seal side. I thought one might have been replaced but then the bolts for the rotors should been the same on both sides.

General Discussion / Something you guys in snow country might consider.

It's not mine and it's not a Camaro but a big block blower, not a blown big block.  Kinda cool.

Restoration / Seam sealer
« on: February 08, 2014, 02:13:18 AM »
Any recommendations on which sealer to use. Some reviews say the Eastwood never cured or the two part was to watery. 3M Fast and Firm or is there something else. Brush on or caulking gun application? I'm not looking for original factory look, just a good seal.

Is there any significance to the paint markings on the tie rod ends?

Maintenance / Manual steering box seals
« on: September 25, 2013, 03:23:45 AM »
Does anyone have after market seal numbers for a '68 manual steering box? $35.00 for a couple of seals seems a bit pricey, half that amount would should be more like it.

General Discussion / 6308 springs
« on: June 11, 2013, 03:42:42 AM »
I just received a new set of 6308's, they're a bit longer than spec but not as long as the 6320. I'm ok with that. The length of both springs are equal but the coil is longer on one. I would think the should be identical. Has anyone come across this, is it acceptable?

General Discussion / Media blast paint prep
« on: February 10, 2013, 11:50:58 PM »
I'm going to blast my sub frame with black beauty, any need to prep the metal before paint? I plan to use a etching primer. Also any thoughts about using a bed liner producct on the under side of the body. It'll be a driver not a numbers matcher any more.

Anyone have anything chromed at Chrome East in Concord NC.  Or maybe a suggestion for a chrome shop near Charlotte.

General Discussion / Sound deadener/insulation
« on: September 15, 2011, 12:08:00 AM »
I want to put sound deadener/insulation in the roof. Thinking of using Jegs brand, any opinions or what to avoid. The roof is ready to install so it should be easier now.
