A freshly completed Traco engine on the stand. The initials R. P. on the lid of the cross ram indicate it is for Roger Penske's Camaro team.

Definitely looks 1969 in my opinion. The heads have the mounting holes on the end for the accessories unlike the 68 and earlier years.

The pictures in the Motorcade magazine of my Guldstrand built 69 clearly show the Traco built 302 with the choke horns there. The car only made it to the final four races of the season.

My understanding was the choke horns were removed in 67-8 to better facilitate air flow because of the thinner air cleaner assemblies that were used prior to the Super Scoop/cowl hood availability.

Cowl hood delete, that is very cool and quite rare these days ;D

I love that recessed cup holder in the RH quarter panel ;D probably works good at car shows.

General Discussion / Re: 1111480 distributor

I asked this question to Jerry MacNeish about this and he said they did make smooth body distributors and distributors with turn marks on them. The distributor came from Heartbeat City and I've always known them for selling  authentic parts.

Did Jerry define who "they" were?

While I did not find any restamped distributors on the Heartbeat website here is a link to restamped 837 alternators that he does sell as restamped units;  http://www.heartbeatcitycamaro.com/store/product/21545/Camaro-Alternator-1100837-dated-9C20-69  .

Thus your opinion of Heartbeat is not correct.

Years ago when I first installed factory heater delete plates on the firewall I also went looking for the "correct" screws. The 67 & 68 Camaro assembly manual showed a part number. I searched the rest of the pages and found the same number listed as holding the resister on the top of the heater box that is under the dash. That was easy since I had just removed it. Naturally they were easy to find but not all were identical as to length and head markings. They were also all 5/16 headed self tapping style screws as I recall.

Great presentation Chad. 8)

Congratulations on receiving the Roy Woods Memorial Trophy award this years as well, you deserve it

Frank Dihartce gets all the credit for this. He spotted it on eBay and mentioned it to me. When Frank says he has never seen a GM racing belt before then I know its an obscure piece. ;D
The date stamped on the belt appears to be August 1976.

Jim Travers of Traco working on a 302 Trans-Am Camaro engine.

Hello again Mr. Pigpen

I'm curious about the added piece that can be seen inside the lower pulley in the above picture.

I believe it may be the same item listed in the Guldstrand catalog as "Traco pulley support plate (crank)".

Also did you use studs for the heads and mains or bolts?

THANK you very much for your time answering all our questions.

THANKS Jon for your efforts on this post as well as the entire site.

When I purchased this picture from Mr. Tronolone he explained that he would sit up in a tree in the corkscrew to get these shots.
The course workers would only allow this if he agreed to stay there and only come down during a yellow flag or at the end of the race.

Very COOL that individuals like Mr. Tronolone still have these items for those of us that are interested to enjoy them 42 years later.

I recall reading on the Mondello website that they had done the heads for Traco.

However the only two names I have seen on Traco heads are Lockerman and Slover. I believe the Slover head was a mid 70's piece.

HELLO Gene, aka Pigpen, and thank you for making yourself available to us.

Thanks to Tom McIntyre I'm the owner of a 69 Traco block and one Lockerman head. I plan to us these in the restoration of the Gerry Gregory 69 Camaro built by Dick Guldstrand. Since Guldstrand's shop was next door to Traco you may remember seeing the car.

The block I have has the letters "CH" stamped on the front pad as well as "KS" in the main cap areas. My current guess is that the CH could be Carl Haas?
I'm also going to guess the KS would be the initials of someone that worked on this particular block.

THANK YOU again for joining our discussions.
