1  Model Specific Discussions / Trans-Am Camaros / Re: For All of You That Want to Own A Trans Am Race Car on: September 01, 2014, 12:51:07 AM
A vintage racer I know might be interested in joining the HTA group - any "barn finds" or other HTA cars for sale out there?

John, you are right.  It is the ex Nichter/Jowett car.  Pardon the Sometimers.

I believe this was the 69 camaro built by the Dimension Racing group for Peter Schwartzot to race in 4 1970 T/A races.  Jeff Hoyt was a member of this gang and I knew him back in the day.
This car was sold to Warren Agor and was later raced in IMSA GT and also later T/A again.

I will get the scoop from Peter on this.

Let's hear the HTA scoop !  any new cars?  I couldn't make it down - was busy at our own VRCBC Mission Raceway HMR.  Sadly, we do not have one
1st gen camaro racing now since Paul's 69 clone car went to a new owner "down under".

Just acquired the Nov/Dec issue of Vintage Motorsport that has a report on the race weekend, and on page 121 a nice photo of the Brock Yates "Sunday Driver" car, owned by
Warren Agor.  I did manage to speak to the crew of that car at the Glen, now owned by Jim Reed.  Back in the day, I raced against Brock in that car at Michigan and the Glen.

I was surprised to run into the original mechanic Rick Dilcher, who built the car for Warren.  Rick also was involved with Dimension Racing who built the 69 Camaro for
Peter Schwartzott and later the 510 that Peter raced. I knew them both from those days.

6  Model Specific Discussions / Trans-Am Camaros / John Bishop on: June 08, 2014, 02:09:45 PM
John Bishop passed June 5 at age 87.  John was a longtime executive director of SCCA and helped oversee the advent of SCCA pro racing - USRRC,Can-Am, and TRANS-AM.

In 69 he and his wife Peggy, along with Bill France, co-founded IMSA.  Rick Stevens and I were able to do 3 Camel GT races in 72 and John kept a Touring Over Category open
for the 305 ci racers for a few years.

John and Peggy were very racer friendly and even years later when I would show up at an event and see them at registration they would always have a cordial greeting for me.

At the 73 PoCono Camel Gt I broke our Camaro transmission in practise, and could not locate a replacement and had to load up and go home.

Imagine, when to our surprise, a full entry refund cheque arrived in the mail a few weeks later.

Rest in Peace.

So who which forum members went to the race?  According to the results posted 13 T/A cars were dnf which sounds very high.  The Gurney Cuda was badly crashed.

Great looking car Sig.  I'm sure you would have done well in the T/A races.

Do you remember what kind of lap time you turned at Laguna?

Long-time CA racer recently passed May 5.  He started racing in 54 at Torey Pines and did several T/A races in a camaro and also in some under 2 litre cars.
See Racing Sports Cars for results

R.I.P.

At the 71 Lime Rock T/A race, all the entrants, drivers, and crew received an invite to attend a gathering at the Posey estate on the Friday night, but our gang couldn't go
because of car problems that need attention.

I had the invite for many years but no longer.
