Trans-Am Camaros / 1968 Watkins Glen Trans-Am program on ebay
« on: March 26, 2017, 02:21:05 AM »
This was my first T/A race - did have this program at one time, but now gone.  Was purchased at
the Village Variety Shop in downtown Glen.  Price is fair but high shipping costs?

This is excellent reading of "behind the scenes".

I remember that when I purchased the first Dick Hoffman 70 camaro in early 80, it also had those
special GM front spindles  Dick was a GM engineer at the Milford proving grounds who also managed
to get a pair of them

Sadly, those spindles vanished while the car was in storage after the crash rebuild necessary after
the 80 T/A race at Laguna.  Friends of mine did the work on the car and they were not used
again for some reason.  After the engine blew during the F Atlantic support race at Westwood in 81,
the car was parked for some time with a bunch of parts and somehow the spindles vanished.

you might contact Dominic who runs the autocourse.ca site.  Legault not listed in the T/A results - could
have been in a support race.

I usually get these at the local Canadian Chapters/Indigo bookstore.  You might find it at a
Barnes&Noble store,
You should be able to order it direct from Vintage Motorsport.

So who owns this 70 camaro now?

It was mentioned on another racing forum that this event will be live-streamed.  See IMRRC facebook

Myself, Dick Young, and Francois Guertin only got to start the race because 3 guys blew their engines in the late morning warm-up.
and we were added to the grid  I think I was the 2nd alternate.  Only 30 cars qualified and the promoter could add 3 more.  I remember
that one racer had loaded up and gone home before this happened who could have started

The engine in our 67 had been overheated in the paddock at the Bryar race previously, so Al had to fix it or build another one.
I had qualified at Bryar but was dns.

The Glen was high speed and you needed some big HP. During that 70 race it rained for some time in the middle of the race,
but I managed without rain tires

At one time I had a racing tape of that race, produced by someone who did many races in those days, but I can't think
of his name right now.  My tape has been lost.

Trans-Am Camaros / Tony Adamowicz 1941 - 2016 RIP
« on: October 11, 2016, 06:01:03 PM »
Tony passed recently - had been fighting brain cancer.  He was 68 T/A 2 litre champ in a Porsche 911.
In 66 he raced Darts and the ARA Javelin for Roy Woods in 71. Tony was a prolific racer.  See ultimateracinghistory.com

Until a few years ago had been vintage racing the 69 Eagle F 5000 car he used to drive.
He was an approachable guy - always willing to chat about racing.

Last time I met him at a vintage event, we shared a few laughs about our adventures at the 71 LIme Rock T/A rain race.

Brian, I also have a photo of that car.  I did race against Walter several times.  He upped his game in 72
if you look at the qualifying times on  ultimateracinghistory, com

Best wishes for a good season next year with the HTA.  Might even get to see you at the races.

Last weekend, while at the SVRA U.S. vintage grand prix at Watkins Glen, I was the guest of former Can-Am and current
vintage racer Bobby Brown.  I learned that he built a 67 camaro T/A car inhouse at the family Chev dealership in Long Island
N.Y. - was raced at Daytona and Sebring that year.

The car then went to England and later he thinks "down under", and now might be back in the U.S.

Does anyone remember this camaro?

I too, enjoyed the Glen weekend with the HTA cars.  Was very nostalgic for me
I was the guest of Can-Am racer Bobby Brown who was there vintage racing with a Brabham and
his re-acquired Chevron.

He told me that the 67 camaro he raced in 67 was built inhouse at his Chev dealership with some help
from Mark Donohue.

I heard that the HTA gang might go to Mid-Ohio in 2017?
