Maybe I didn't make it very clear either, but the car with #50 only ran at Mid Ohio, so somewhow it ended up in Ford film also.

The car # at Mid Ohio was # 50.  Dick used # 48 at Riverside, his usual race #,  according to the photo with the camera on my "interview" thread. Also I don't see any camera on the car in Tim's photo.

This would be the 69 Mid-Ohio T/A.  Tim has a racing T/A film?

Jon, have you posted the current layout photo? I don't believe it is the old circuit that we used to race on. I sort of remember using part of the paved oval.  The paddock had little pavement - was full of rocks.

Except for 70 when our 67 camaro was overheated in the paddock and I didn't get to start, I had good luck there in 71 & 72 - 11th and then 12th as I remember. I do remember that a 3:73 final drive was not ideal - needed a 4:56.

Thanks Jon, for posting these layouts.  Unfortunately I never got to race at RA in those early T/A days - the track was just too far away for us to get back in time for work on Mon. AM and our budget was usually depleted by the time the race was held.  I have spectated there many times starting in the early sixties.  The town of Elkhart Lake is a neat resort town close to the track.  I was last there in 05 I think when they had the big group 6 crash on Sunday during the Kohler vintage wknd.

I did get to Laguna but not until the 80 T/A race in the first ex Dick Hoffman 71T/A camaro.  It was that original layout that Jon has posted.  I remember some transmission shifting problems in practise and only got a few practise laps in. As a result qualified way back and got involved in a big crash that ended our day. I remember a very challenging and very fast layout. The crash also meant we couldn't race at Riverside the next wknd so I missed out there, although Dick Hoffman drove the 67 camaro at the 69 T/A race.  He was the "camera car" that you have seen a photo of.

Well I did get to the Sonoma Festival and spent some time in the T/A garages where I met Chad, Robert, and Jon, and a few more guys.  Really enjoyed my time there.  Those cars sure looked way more spiffy than how I remember most of them.

The weather was brutal on Saturday but they adjusted the Sunday schedule so everyone got to race.  Chad, I thought you won the race on Sunday, or it looked like you did from where I sat in the grandstand, but the official results say no?

Came down from BC in my old 99 Dodge Caravan with 2 of my friends, one of whom just started racing an 87 ex Canadian Player's GM series camaro 2 years ago. He is now building a stronger 87 camaro. He is 59, an engineer guy and is having fun.  The old Caravan was an unkown quantity but never missed a beat down and back.  some of my T/A programs found happy new owners.

Our 67 camaro was assigned that # 16 for the 69 Sebring race.  Turned out to be a good number as we finished 25th o/a and 3rd in the 2-5 litre touring class.

This is a good looking A sedan car (no T/A history), and appears to be mostly "period correct"  I don't believe there are too many of those SCCA A sedan cars left that are racing.

Jerry Taylor in OR has a clone 67 camaro T/A car.  This is the 2nd one he has built - is asking $60 K I believe which seems like a fair price.  Jerry at one time owned the ex Leigh Gardner camro that did a few T/A races.

If you just want to play with most vintage groups a clone car will do fine.  A few years ago the trading price on a privateer T/A car was about $125 K, depending on it's state of restoration. Have no idea where prices are at in today's economy.

Some friends of mine are hoping to replicate my 67 T/A camaro.  They have a shell and some driveline parts.  It will be interesting to see what money they will have invested when they are done (not counting labour).

Jon, I will be down there with a few friends (driving from Vancouver B.C.) - should be there sometime Friday afternoon.  Will be visiting Ron Tribble and chad Raynal among others in the paddock and staying at the Comfort Inn in Vallejo Friday and Saturday.

I'm going to bring my Trans-Am and Can-Am programs - it's time they found a new home.

A great story on one of the unsung racing heros.  I was priveleged to meet him at the 09 Petersen Tribute to Trans-Am. - always had great admiration for the guys who could weld and fabricate etc.

Very interesting stuff.   Too bad David Bean didn't have someone proof-read his spelling.  He went to work for the Titus-Godsall Pontiac gang for the 70 season I understand.  He is still active in the Lotus restoration/repair business.

As John noted in my "interview" we didn't stand a chance trying to compete against that level of preparation, never mind Donohue's driving ability.

Trans-Am Camaros / Re: Factory rear sway bar set-up, 1967

I'm curious if the Historic T/A cars are running rear sway bars?  Did stock Z 28's have a rear bar?  I think we tried a rear bar a few times, and in the end decided it didn't work for us, but maybe with more test time etc. it may have done.

Bob was from Vancouver BC  He was a tech guy at a GM dealership and built that car himself as soon as they were available.  It was mostly club raced and eventually put back on the street - has not surfaced.

After the camaro, Bob built and raced a quick Datsun 510 in the 2.5 Challenge in 72

Bob has passed on, but his son Bob jr is a sprint car racer at Skagit Speedway in WA and his daughter Cindy was the SCCBC club points champion racer in a Honda at the Mission Raceway road course in 09.

Legendary Motorcar Company (Dream Car Garage) had the U of Pittsburgh 69 camaro for sale for a long time, but it is not listed on their inventory now - where has it gone?

Legendary does many restorations per SVRA specs - usually not exactly "period correct" from what I've been told.

For several years Legendary housed the Canadian Motorsports Hall of Fame cars - now gone to storage as they are trying to build their own facility - don't believe they have any early Canadian T/A cars.

I don't remember "race wheels and spares". Fully prepped to Group II ? I think some of that suff was saved for his next build - the 68 camaro - later raced, after Mo, by Jerry Daca.  I don't think that 68 has surfaced.
