That looks to be the pics behind the reports, Both cars are # 37 but it certainly looks like Jerry in the car. I wonder if they kept trying to run the spoilers until the SCCA relented. I will have to trawl through all the on track Firebird shots and see which had this type of spoiler.
I am also weary of relying on the book photo captions.   Jerry was using his #13 at Bridghampton

Re the Titus Firebirds running without spoilers, I believe that they turned up with aftermarket (ie non factory) spoilers, the front had some funnel shaped ducts, this was questioned by the SCCA, and they had to remove them before the race start.

Stunning photos Jon, the background knowledge of the cars, drivers and circumstances makes it very enjoyable.
Boy, they drove those cars hard and there is a LOT of panel damage. It's surprising any survived,

You time and effort scanning and posting all those pics is very much appreciated.

That is very sad news indeed. Chic Vandagriff and his family were heavily involved with so many very notable and sucessful race endevours.
My condolences to his family.

That looks great Mike. Neat that the various manufacturers are close in their dimensions.
I am pretty sure that the front bumper/grill surround was fiberglass on the T/G cars.   The cars were looking their best by the time they got to Riverside.

Keep up the good work.

Bruce.

Thanks for posting those pics Mike. They contain so many neat details in the construction and interior shots.
As you know we crave this sort of information.

Much appreciated, and you certainly aren't slack.

More stunningly good photos, thank you Jon,  It looks like a dirty hard race for everyone involved.
Ron must have been at just about every vantage point of the track judging by the variety of shot locations.

Many thanks, to you and Ron.

It looks a lot like Stardust raceway in Vegas, but it's been quite some time since I was last there.

This was also around the time Paul Lamar was doing some work on the first gen Firebirds. There is a pic of him with the cars and a very high wing on it.

Here is a shot from the "Finelines" article that focused on racing Firebirds. This looks to be very early in the build sequence, the initial cars together, and possibly they were still aiming to run the 303, insufficient 303 engines sold to the public meant it was not homologated, and they again ran the Chevrolet 302 and the '68 Firebird front though with '69 fenders with the full length swage line above the front wheel opening.

Jon, Isn't that one of the pics from the japanese article by Kanji Satoh ? It was written around some tire testing session.

There is a very similarly prepared car in the T/G shop with the white fender scoops and taped on headlight covers. My impression is that it was very early in the season, hence the '69 Pontiac front.

Jon,
That profile shot of the Firebird looks very much like the one used in an article next to a stock Trans Am, and Jerry between the two. Definitely a first iteration of the race car. Though it looks a bit high in the front it could be minus engine.

Mike, Thank you very much for posting the pics of the T/G car and bus (ex mobile Post office) for sale.  I must try and find a copy of that CP & A.

TRegards,
Bruce.

Here's the pic Jon, I had to reduce it for here, but zoomed in you can see the tach.

Mike, I love the idea of the 68/69 Titus Firebird model. Craig Fisher ran the full '69 Trans Am Firebird in early '70. It was a very nice looking car, but I am a bit biased.
