Originality / Re: 1969 Camaro trim tag legit?
« on: February 21, 2023, 08:39:15 PM »
Well I have members ask me and if it isn't clear, I will ask them to post it on the CRG. So with a car that has had SO much work done to it, with RS added, and being advertised as a JL8 (which it isn't), I thought well perhaps the is not even a real Z/28 to begin with. It is no different than the ebay auctions that others post where a car is for sale as something it really isn't imo

Originality / 1969 Camaro trim tag legit?
« on: February 21, 2023, 06:52:20 PM »
I saw this car listed recently and while I know its is not an original JL8 car, but I am trying tot get clarification on the trim tag, and if it looks like a legit X33 car.

Not great pics, console gauges were likely added since there is not a clock present.

I think a mirror was used so it shows the numbers from the underside. *But if someone was willing to remove tags, would they remove the upper section of the firewall and graft that in? many ways to skin cat it seems

Yep that is the pic I saw as well. Thank you for the additional input. I haven't seen any original Z cars with it. Just double checking. Thank you guys

I have seen this PCV bracket ( on the left in the pic by the choke) on a couple of 69Z cars, and I have not been able to find evidence of them being a factory item, but I thought I would throw it out there just to get consensus from others in the know. I do see a similar bracket offered on the L78 in the AIM, but not the 69Z
thanks

I've seen putty and finger marks before...

meaning it was like that as it left the factory, or you have seen other guys fudge it like that on original tags during some kind of restoration ?

I see the new pic of the cowl VIN stamp. Curious as to how this car came together. With todays craftsman anything is possible to recreate an expensive muscle car. I agree on the block having a re-stamp. Upside down seals are common on real Z cars and the fakes though.

Definitely a rare piece. The title of the post is "whats it worth??" So that is the direction I went

Steve you bring some good info and expanded on Camaronuts creation as well as your own.

If there is a Pace car group on Facebook, or if they have a separate site/forum, I would think that would be the best way to strike a fair deal for the air cleaner. Of course the Yenko site has a classified section as well.

So the question is are they worth 1200 to anyone else? Could be if the vendors hold onto them long enough. I suspect the price they would actually sell at to be much lower, or guys will get creative and find a way to make their own, as mentioned.
wtg camaronut. 🙂

I think if you have that car, you would be hard pressed to locate one. But it always about putting the right parts with the right car or owner for the win win scenario, right? 🙂

They do not sell the ends if I understand your question correctly.

It could just be for an automatic SS with the cowl hood, doesn't need to be a Pace car. Although I think an original Pace car owner that has a very original unrestored car may value this time the most in its present condition. At the most I would guess it would be equivalent to an original Z ZL-2 air cleaner assembly in similar condition. So maybe around 500-700 in the current condition.

I was looking closer at this 69Z and the putty on the rivets for the trim tag looked suspect to me. I was curious to get others opinions:https://www.mecum.com/lots/LN1122-524293/
