Originality / Re: Correct engine paint suggestions please!
« on: October 27, 2013, 04:08:08 AM »
I don't personally like the VHT "chevy orange", or the Aervoe. It sprays fine and adheres ok, but the color just doesn't look right to me. Too bright and it seems a bit to much red in it? When I look at original engines they look more pumpkin orange ( for lack of a better description). So my query would be is the quanta products more spot on to the original color?

Originality / Re: GM silver for Rally wheels.
« on: October 27, 2013, 04:03:15 AM »
Ok here is my 2 cents: I have a set of powder coated wheels in the correct argent silver on my impala. While they will never rust I have a couple of issues with them. Along with the wheels and anything else as Gary mentioned powder coated items have a different sheen to them, so on the wheels it looks like a slight orange peel affect. powder coating them in black first is a great idea and then scuffing out side and spraying in argent sounds good to me. BUT hold on a sec!
Glass beading or sand blasting is a quick easy way, and IMO the easiest if you access to one, but please Note* the glass particles or sand will get stuck in the cracks of the wheel where they welded the inner piece to the outer rim of the wheel. If you do not clean this they will powder right over it, and it will look like CRAP. Take the extra time to take a razor blade or utility knife into those tight areas and pry all those little bits of sand and glass out. Then take some 200 and get it in there just to get the extra dust and dirt out. I am super picky, so I have found this works best so far, so when you do powder or paint it will look really good.
Unless you plan on driving in salt paint should work just fine.

Ok, since we started this topic. Would the sweatshirts also be in blue? Are we talking hooded sweatshirts?

If those tires were on your car since 76 and then you went and sold them at the flea market, it is safe to say you got your money out of those tires! The car looks great in that photo.

Originality / Re: 69Z trim rings - late build car

Do all your wheels look like they have ever been repainted? Reason I ask is,  I got both styles of trim rings with my car, and my wheels have the original paint on them, and you could see where both styles have been used at one time or another.

I think what Kurt is asking is who is the original dealer on the POP who sold the car in 69?

Looks like from your pic and signature that your Gold Z 39K is also pretty original with the POP. Which car is more original? Do they both drive the same?

thanks I missed that previously. I was surprised they would pull cars off, but hopefully this guys rear end is the original to the car then.

Yes I am the one that originally posted it. It's a heck of a machine, but as mentioned, she has been fluffed some. For that money I would rather get 3 69' Z/28 RS's... Danny

Well a protecto plate I guess would answer the question. If the car was still getting put together the following week, than maybe it becomes more likely it is original to the car. The rear ends didn't have a vin stamped on them like the motor and trans, if it is that close to the window of being built I wouldn't loose any sleep over it. BUT
How often did a car start to get put together one week and then get finished up the next, or wait? for the correct part to be on site and installed?

I guess I can imagine them having a decent stock of 12 bolt rear ends and then that following monday a new shipment is dropped off and this 12/13 stamped unit gets put in front of the old stock and gets installed. It could have happened just like that, if other members want to weigh in with their dates it may be the case.

Mild Modifications / Re: Cross Ram Z in action - sorta - check er out
« on: October 23, 2013, 08:32:49 PM »
I believe what they were alluding to in the article was if you were at the track and in that high rpm band most of time then you would benefit from the x ram. On the street/strip the  780 was the way to go.

Nice but as our members have observed, it has had recent "touch ups" to make it look more appealing. Unfortunately taking away from the survivor type status

I would say yes. I have a 12B and it has a 1122 (Nov.22) original rear. I also have a 3E, 5th week of March, which has a 0407 (April,7) original rear!
You are talking about a month for them to get it in a car, which falls in line fine. BUT his example of the rear end getting put in the same day it was stamped? He says 12B (second week in december) rear dated 12-13, (last day of the week corresponding to 12B). John Z, Kurt care to weigh in here?
