If your choke wasn't set right, yes your going to see some carbon from that. Most of your other plugs look ok. I would go ahead clean up the plugs make sure the gap is ok, re-install, and your probably good to go!

36k, I haven't seen the car close up, but Maybe he should have taken the 80K he says he was offered a few years back. Or he will have to wait until the next surge in pricing?

You would have thought that it would have been changed over to the filter, and then not been stamped on the pad any longer. A discrepancy in Jerrys book possibly?

thats good info, I see where it says Norwood started stamping down there beginning in January 69. In jerrys book it says for LOS cars they have been found as late as april with the vin appearing on the pad.

I just called them, nice guys. They said they don't currently have a 12 bolt. The last one they had was a 3.31 open rear that they sold for 1200. Just to give you an idea on their prices. They said they have about 30 first gen camaros, but that they haven't received one in about 4 years, so it sounds like there pretty picked over. He said just about all of them don't have motors in them. I have to make a run up to washington state in a month to pick up another Ford, I will see if the weather holds on possibly stopping by and snap a pic of their yard for you guys.

Thats pretty exciting meeting with the original owner. The original owners wife and family live in northern Michigan, it was about 3 to 4 hours from where I was in northern Indiana.   I would to get up there and see them. Having the 4 kids, just didn't get a free weekend to get up there. I still keep in contact with the son. It is hard for to believe his dad owned the car all the way up until 2007, and they never took a picture of it over the years. He was a fanatic about the car, but no pics?
Your pics are a priceless treasure, post up what you get from him, and it might be cool to get a picture of him with the car if you have the chance in the future.
How far is he from you?

it doesn't quite look as dark as the other burnished brown cars I have seen, including yours. I can't believe the LOS cars had a different shade of burnished brown. Repaint?

I thought all the LA cars had it on the pad, and Norwood switched this around January 1st of 69. I am pretty sure it is on the CRG here somewhere .
The only thing I notice is it looks like the numbers for the vin were stamped separately, and other examples of original LA blocks look like the vin number was stamped with a single gang, and looks more uniform. In Jerrys book the font seems to differ slightly as well, but I have not seen nearly as many as Kurt. If it were me I would want the guy to provide a lot more pics of the stamp, and get the input from CRG before I made a trip to see it in person.

6-cylinder Camaros / Re: Appreciation/Recognition for 6 bangers!
« on: November 21, 2013, 07:12:09 PM »
Gary in your signature it shows 55 nomad and 57 nomad, I think you need to "spread the wealth".....ha ha :D

I also like the shoe box chevys. I have a 55 hardtop now. it took 5 years for me to talk my friend out of it. Since everything else I have is pretty much stock, the idea for the 55 is a alumium LS1 with a 6 speed, and just drive the car in primer and enjoy it.. ;)
BUT I am just accumulating parts right now, I have almost everything except the computer, and heads, and some small engine accessories.
There is a long term goal to get all the vehicles under one roof like a barn or airplane hanger, so it will still be some time before it gets put together.

I have had cars with a 6 and they worked well as a daily driver. I bought a 65 ranchero(with a 6) for $200 bucks and drove it for a couple years probably 100k miles, before I sold it for $700. My 64 C/10 had a 6 in it when I got it as well, man that motor ran forever, but when top speed came down to 45 mph, I had to pull it, it has a mean 327 now. I also have a 66 C/10 with a 6 that runs like a charm, although I do vision swapping in that 327 in the future, and building a more wicked motor for my 64.

There is a certain charm to those 6 cylinder vehicles, thats for sure.

I am not going to question your knowledge or ability to spot a restamp, but I am surprised someone would go through the trouble of decking and re-stamping and then just somewhat pick a random number to stamp on a block, hoping that 1 he didn't stamp a number that somebody already has, and 2 if nobody has it that they will see his ad. Seems like a long shot on his part is all.

Thats a nice little pictorial history of your car. Your lucky to have such awesome pictures through the years. You may have stated this already, but other than the body shop, what are the plans for the final look? drag car ,street strip, stock?
My son is only 6 right now, and I pray he winds up in good circumstances as yours has. You have a lot to be thankful for man..

Are you planning on going ? or are you looking at purchasing any of them?
I have been to a handful of Mecum auctions mostly in Indianapolis, just long enough to look over some nice cars as I would if I was at a car show. Sometimes I'll note a lot number if I am curious what it bid up to, I look it up later online when I get home, I never stay for the auction, to boring for me. If I knew there were some unrestored cars up there in Anaheim I might check it out, I live in SoCAl now and Anaheim is about an hour from me, pending traffic.

I had the same problem with Mustang stalling out when braking. I assume you have power brakes. I had a vacuum leak at the carb base, and a couple of old carb gaskets. An easy way to check is with some starter fluid. Get the car running and idling on its own and then spray starter fluid around the out side base of the carb, if the rpm picks up you have a leak.
Spittering and sputtering: once you solve your vacuum leak, then new plugs or (check the gap) , points (check the gap), condenser, cap and rotor, check your vacuum on the distributor (they are adjustable), new plug wires. (pictures of the plugs will tell you if its to lean (white colored), or to rich (very black, and full of carbon).
Check your timing.
If you still have the issue Clean out the carb, I assume its a holley which if any little bit of debris is in there it will not run smooth. blow out the carb and make sure all passage ways are clear and free flowing. Check (or replace) your power valve while you have apart, and as Cook mentions check to make sure you have the right jets, set your floats.
If it still runs a bit rough post up what you took care of, and we'll go from there...
Good  Luck!  :)
