Test Drive / How long have you owned your camaro?
« on: February 28, 2014, 05:58:57 PM »
Ok fellas, James (ko-lec-tor) said he wanted to see a poll on how long we have owned each of our Camaros, so here is a new poll for all of us first Gen guys to participate in. If you have more than one car, vote based on the 1st Gen Camaro you have owned the longest.  ;D
If you have a good story about how long you have had it, or how long you looked, or how long you waited for the owner to sell it to you, post the story below.

Enjoy!!

Well I agree with what you are saying, but was the situation any different when Ford got bailed out in the 80's? When GM got bailed out, if they hadn't, would/could Toyota have come in and worked a deal to buy them?,( kinda like AMF and Harley in the 70's). It may have been hard to watch, but might have been interesting to see how it played out. On one hand  I feel for the workers , on the other I feel the benefits the Union negotiated made it hard for them to turn a profit let alone keep their head above water. Good economy or bad they still have to pay benefits and retirement. When things go good, union can push them into a corner, but when things take a turn for the worse, the company takes a big hit, until they can re-negtiate with the union, (if the company does't go under)

Simple answer is: (if you are keeping the car) do what makes you happy. If you would like to continue along and get the ZL2 set up operational, than do so. On the other hand if the nurse lit a fire in you to change it back, that's also your choice.
Value wise it depends on the buyers you are trying to market the car to (if you were going to sell it).

Bottom line it's your car do what makes you happy!

My only question: what happened to all the parts you removed??   :)

We all hope for many more!

both good articles Phillip. Interesting how much participation VW had in trying to get a union in there. On the other hand Michigan has a long way to go, it took a number of elections voting the same ticket back into office and getting the same results, I hope if it doesn't turn around right away that they don't blame who is in power right now. Even if the right guys are in there (which time will tell) it is still going to take a major overhaul of the whole state.

"Who knew the movie "ROBOCOP" would predict the future (of Detroit) correctly 20 years from when it was released????

So your panties are fine as long as their is no golden parachutes, but the bail outs are a necessity?
Next we will hear how we have to get away from auto unions and how their leverage has put the big 3 behind the eight ball.....
but we know that won't happen , to big of a voting block.  :D

All I am saying is if you were trying to reproduce the look of the car when it was new, I would be surprised if it shined that brightly is all. It does look like you could eat off of it though.. ;D

Agree it is more track oriented, and has come a long way but $75K come on now. I would be surprised if it costs GM 40K more than the SS or 20K more than a ZL-1. I get that there has been upgrades to the motor and suspension, (wouldn't it be cheaper with no AC, thinner rear glass, and smaller wheels?   :D  ) Still seems like a heavy handed upgrade in the price to me.

The finished piece looks nice, almost to nice? I assume the brass will darken up and then be fine. Did you have any loose linkage on yours?

Are you sure that is a weld, and not just a painted bushing?

Ok, so my first question would be is it the ball or the socket that has the extra wear? My thoughts would be to replace the one piece (unless both have worn evenly) scuff the whole assembly, paint/(plate?),  lube,  install.

I think your right about that Gary (not the orange   :D  ) but the black on the underside of the hood. Maybe it was black but the moisture got to it? Mine is still black, but mine had hood insulation on it most of its life.
