General Discussion / 1969 pace car questions
« on: August 21, 2021, 11:14:42 PM »
So I saw this pace car, with many mods, and I got to looking at the Trim tag, and with the finger smudges of sealer over the rivets, I wanted some opinions on the tag itself.
thanks

« on: August 15, 2021, 01:25:50 AM »
I was on FB today and saw where a guy was asking about having DZ with an automatic behind it. I asked for the partial vin and DZ stamp, and he posted some good pics.
partial vin: 19L529083, VO 318 DZ

This is the car that is missing it: https://topclassiccarsforsale.com/chevrolet/472990-amazing-1969-dz302-z28-camaro.html

not sure if the car is in the database, or if anyone knows the owner.

it would be cool to reunite them.

I have the contact info for the Owner of the block. his name is Spencer.

Originality / crayon marking on the lower fender extensions ?
« on: June 07, 2021, 08:25:13 PM »
So recently a guy posted pics of taking his 69Z apart, and the was the letter "G" in crayon on the inside of the lower fender extension. While looking for an explanation for this one person suggested the G stood for Z/28, as it is a G on the broadcast copy under the engine RPO 11, and the G was to let them know where to punch the fender for emblems.
Now it appears that the lower fender extensions were painted independent of the fenders, so why would they put a G on the lower part?

I appreciate any insight to this, and if his expanation of being a Z/28 is a good one, and if this is discussed anywhere else on the CRG that I could not find, or in a research article. thanks

General Discussion / BAT 69Z for auction
« on: January 24, 2021, 08:14:30 AM »
So I saw this 69Z pop up on my feed from BAT:
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1969-chevrolet-camaro-z-28-28/?utm_source=dm&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=2021-01-23

I saw in the comments that William has endorsed the car, which was surprising to me, since the trim tag was suspect to me. maybe just a color change?

I would appreciate others chiming in with there opinion of the trim tag.
thanks

Trans-Am Camaros / Current Trans am racers looking to shave weight
« on: October 18, 2020, 08:15:37 PM »
Just curious to the guys that currently track their cars, have any of you switched over to a lithium battery for weight savings?
(I have read about 35-40 pounds can be saved)

Decoding/Numbers / project 69
« on: November 27, 2019, 04:30:59 PM »
So I am looking at this car on eBay for a friend:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/1969-Chevrolet-Camaro-Unrestored-Original-Car-Numbers-Matching-327ci-Automatic/174103354417?hash=item28895e5c31:g:CAkAAOSwnihd10En&vxp=mtr

I have a pretty good idea about what the car is. One of the major things that I was looking at is the trim tag.

This is just a plain Jane car, so not really suspect to have a fake trim tag, but when I look at it does look really crisp. It is an early 69, so maybe they started off that way and got less "crisp" as many thousands got stamped?

Appreciate some opinions on the car and the trim tag. (if you scroll down on the auction there is about 50 pics)
thanks

Originality / 1967 Disc brakes options and production.
« on: November 06, 2019, 05:14:45 AM »
While I understand the 67 Z was mandatory with J50 disc brakes and J52 power assist, (which would add up to 602 cars produced). What about the other models? IS there production numbers on how many SS cars, and non SS cars came with disc brakes and power disc brakes for 1967?

Decoding/Numbers / Alternator stamp and date check
« on: October 31, 2019, 03:06:21 AM »
So I have been looking for the correct alternator for my white 69Z. I ran across a guy that has this one. My car is a early LA 10B car.
So 2 questions:
 is this a legit stamp?
is this too early for my car?

( I also sent the image to Gary, hopefully he can blow up the stamp area)

I thought I had read they discontinued black towards the middle of 69. Or maybe you could get it but it would be a - - ?

I saw this tag posted on FB, and just struck me that I haven't seen a car that late with 10 10 code.

Garage Talk / Camaro stolen/ camaro found
« on: September 20, 2019, 03:08:08 PM »
I saw this story recently posted on facebook. This owner is one of the few to actually get his car back.

https://www.wkyt.com/content/news/Morehead-family-recovers-valuable-vehicle-after-stolen-at-Tennessee-car-show-560737611.html?fbclid=IwAR0FeWTAlT-rnHK-Vbo1lm_ZYr49ZL8antoDHmbFg4WDNb9DHFMUjv8i8ps

If you watch the video in the link, it shows how the thieves hacked into the dash to hot wire it. what a mess. Also did a little damage to the rear passenger side rear.

Glad he got the car back, not sure about 60k they say the car is worth

Garage Talk / A great place to lose a car. ( the hot Rod power tour)

Sounds like thieves are targeting what ever they can make off with:

5 cars stolen over night. Hopefully they were insured, and the owners can replace them.

General Discussion / Drive train re-stamp?
« on: March 11, 2019, 04:13:38 PM »
So I posted a link to this car on another thread just comparing the trim tag (06A). The owner (dealer) has the car listed for sale on" Fake book", and claims numbers matching 1969 Z/28 for $68,000.  He (may) have the original protect-o-plate .
I asked him to post pics of the the original stamps on the drive train and while the trans stamps definitely does not match the POP, the motor Vin stamp on the pad, has got to be to late for that, and then the rear end looks like they stamped numbers to match the POP. What is really bizarre is they left the original rear stamp (**0618G1) , and then stamped numbers below it that. (he even has a note that says two lines of numbers in the pic)

https://www.facebook.com/groups/1818709758418958/permalink/2071295199827078/?comment_id=2071302406493024&reply_comment_id=2073795132910418

(I thought he car should at least be in the CRG data base, for any future sales where it claims to be original drive train. )

Decoding/Numbers / Original DZ Stamp?
« on: March 03, 2019, 05:36:46 AM »
I have a friend who just got the is block from a family member who had it for years. It does not have the correct crank, but I wanted opinions if the stamp looks to be original?
I have not seen the block in person or seen a vin stamp (yet).

« on: December 14, 2018, 05:15:03 PM »
Hey I saw this ad for a 69 smog pump on ebay. I know the're a lot of guys trying to piece back there system. Quite a bit included in the auction. I thought of Tim trying to disassemble his.
Not a bad deal, you may even offer less and get a better deal:
