OK, thanks.  I thought this would be easy to find online but I couldn't come up with it.

OK, sounds good.  I'll probably keep the Holley and rebuild it if need be.

Thanks

Thanks guys for the information.  In rereading my post I realized I wasn't clear in my wording.  What I meant to say was that I'm not looking for an exact, period correct master cylinder, but rather one that will work and be correct for the brake system I have and I wanted to make sure that the part being offered wasn't a mistake in the computer system of RockAuto (which has happened to me at other parts places and resulted in me getting parts that don't fit correctly).

Thanks for the update and good to know that power or manual uses the same part # now.

Thanks,
Brandon

General Discussion / '67 Vacuum Canister

On a '67 Camaro with 327, power glide, factory AC, I found that the vacuum canister for the AC is there, but not hooked up and all the vacuum lines are plugged off.  What's strange is that the AC still works.  The vents change from top top bottom to defrost.  What does the vacuum control on the AC system?

Thanks,
Brandon

Originality / Battery Ground Cable Location

Hello all,

I'm trying to find the original routing of the battery ground cable.  I think the one I have is wrong.  Currently, it goes and mounts to the AC compressor mount, on top.

In case it matters the cars is factory AC, power steering, brakes, 327, powerglide, RS.

Thanks,
Brandon

I just wanted to make sure I ordered the correct master cylinder.  The page that you referenced indicates the Power Disc Brake cars came with master cylinder number 5460346 and Manual Disc Brake cars came with 5459467.

Rock auto does not distinguish between power or manual brakes.  I have at times encountered parts suppliers to have an error and offer an incorrect part.  Would these be correct?  I notice they do not have the original style bleed valves.  Will this cause an issue?

Hello,

I'm looking to replace an incorrect (an non-functional) master cylinder on a '67 Camaro with power disc brakes.  Rock Auto is only showing one part number for disc brakes.  Were the master cylinders the same for power and non-power brakes?

The number they give for AC Delco is ACDELCO 18M1036 {#19106822, 19176594}.  Also, I noticed that the Cardone brand is more expensive, and has a different discrption:

CARDONE 1336280 {Click Info Button for Alternate/OEM Part Numbers} With Reservoir Info Front Disc brakes; with Bendix Brake Booster; with Dual Wire Bail Master Cylinder Reservoir; Original Bendix Boosters are Usually Painted Black

I'm not sure I understand the difference.  Is the Cardone a better unit?  Does it matter if the car has power brakes or not?

Thank you,
Brandon

General Discussion / Holley Carb
« on: October 06, 2019, 11:04:15 PM »
Hello everyone,

I'm helping my father with his '67 Camaro.  We're fixing a few things.  The car has been put back to mostly original but the carburetor is a Holley.  It currently needs some work.  I'm curious if there would be any advantage, other than originality, to returning to the original style carburetor.  The current carb has an electric choke and the previous owner seems to have crimped the heat tube for the old choke.

Thanks,
Brandon

Thanks for the replies.  I don't have the AIM.  It seems our car is missing the vacuum canister.  Thanks for the information.  Perhaps I can find more info now by looking up vacuum canister and maybe find some pictures also.

Hello all,

I can't seem to find a definitive answer about this online, perhaps because I don't know the correct terminology to search with.  On the back of our '67 Camaro (RS, 327, powerglide, Power steering, power brakes, AC) there is a vacuum port with 3 connectors:  Transmission, Power brakes, and another line that is plugged.  I'm curious what the 3rd (middle) connection is for.  The only clues I have found online is that perhaps someone put a '68/'69 port on the intake and the middle port was for the vacuum headlights (which '67 of course doesn't have).  My suspicion was that maybe it went to a vacuum canister for the AC system, but I'm not sure if '67 camaros were supposed to have them; our car does not.

Thank you,
Brandon

WOW, 15 pages!  Awesome, thanks.  It appears I haven't been the only one confused by this.

Sometimes there are questions that if you try to Google you will never end up with a definitive answer, so I have come to the definitive source to get the answer.

I have always thought that all 1968 Camaro RS grilles and stripes looked like this (except for the SS badge):

And the 67 Camaro SS grilles and stripes looked like this (minus SS badge):

I believe that any deviation from this was just a mismatched and incorrect addition or restoration.  I believed that all 68s had horizontal chrome strips on the RS grille and a front stripe that stopped at the belt line and continued toward the rear of the car and all 67s had the solid black-mesh RS grill with a stripe that wrapped around the entire front end.  However, I have seen such an enormous amount of mismatched options I'm now beginning to wonder what was factory correct or if there were different options I was unavailable of.

Thank you for clearing this up.

Maintenance / Re: Bench Testing Ignition Switch '67

We have already ordered a new one from the local parts house, but I'm sure it will be cheaper quality than the original, plus I like to be able to repair originals whenever possible.  Surely someone has taken one of these apart.

I tested the ignition switch with an ohm meter tonight.  First, the Batt terminal is loose, so that itself can't be good.  Every position seems to work except for the IGN.  This only works when the key is held in the "start" position, and I assume it should work in both the start and the run key positions.

Has anyone ever taken one of these ignition switches apart?
