Looks like a 3 or 4 speed shifter/transmission, but it has and automatic brake pedal unless I'm missing something..Do you now if it has a 10 or 12 bolt rear end...

Decoding/Numbers / Setting the Record Straight about a car..
« on: August 13, 2013, 02:18:03 AM »
In February of 2011, when I knew very little about Z-28's I requested information regarding the following car. I posted some misinformation and I would like to set the record straight regarding this car. Here is the correct information regarding this car. Let's hope, I don't screw this up !!!

Vin #124379N663446
Cowl Tag 124379NOR357740
06A  Trim 723
X77 D80  57-57

A response from Kurt back then - "Don't search for the engine VIN. That's not the original block. Had a 350 in it last I knew. Axle is dented where the axle code is. Was in MI. Tag used to say 57-57 723, so that looks to have been changed."

I can't speak to the motor since it has not been taken apart.  This car does have the dented axle where the axle code is, so I trust the information on the cowl tag now that I have all the correct information.

However, I regret that I posted incorrect information about this car when seeking information regarding this car. I have since learned a valuable lesson in that if you can take a picture or see the numbers clearly don't guess and don't post...Many trying to help will draw the wrong conclusion based on one actions.

Thanks for letting me set the record straight about this car. It would be unfair to this car and any future person checking on my misleading information regarding this car.  It has been sold once since February of 2013 and is still in North Carolina for now.

Originality / Re: Cable Motor Support
« on: July 27, 2013, 03:08:08 PM »
Thanks..
Just curious why you see it on some cars and not other ones. Was it due to the breaking of the driver side motor mount. They look kind of cool on the cars I've seen them on..

Originality / Cable Motor Support
« on: July 27, 2013, 11:30:22 AM »
I have seen on some 69 Z-28 ( I believe mid year cars) a cable support/motor restraint kit installed on the drivers side. Was this an original factory installed part or an add on by the dealer to keep the motor from flexing and breaking motor supports.  Does anyone one know of the part number is for this system or what this part is called.

I have used the Classic Headquarter ones and they fit very well...They are a little pricey though, but much nicer than the factory reproductions.  You might ask whoever you buy them from to make sure there are no scratches on the ones they ship you before hand.  The shipping is going to sting, unless you can pick them up some where close by..

Decoding/Numbers / Re: Why Are Some Blocks Stamped and Some Not
« on: May 17, 2013, 02:37:21 AM »
So would this mean, that all blocks would have been stamped at the factor by the oil filter.  Then could only assume that with no visible stamp by the oil filter means its not an original productions motor. A duck is a duck if its a real duck.

Decoding/Numbers / Why Are Some Blocks Stamped and Some Not
« on: May 14, 2013, 02:33:10 AM »
Over the past few years, I have been watching and reading about original 69 Z/28 blocks with just the pad stamped, and some with the pad stamped and partial vin. # stamped by the oil filter. I understand from this site, why they changed the location of the partial vin. # and about when, so here is my questions.

With all the factory controls in place, along with a QC system they had back then, why weren't all car/blocks confirmed to be properly stamped both on the block pad and by the oil filter after they made the change?  Did it become so difficult to do during the production process to get done right, or did they just say oh what the heck, its not going to matter anyway and just let it go. Or, did they get it right and they are just that many re-stamp block out there these days.

As a hobbyist this continue to confuses me. Are there really that many re-stamps blocks out there these days and if so, about when did all the fakes start showing up.

We're good and thanks for the response..

The guys ask me what I though the long block should be worth. Any thoughts or comments as to what this motor would be worth. Without the dist, carb, manifolds, or the balancer.  I'm thinking $4,000 to $4,500. How for off am I...?

Danny, I'm going, I agree with you..But your comment " No offense meant at all" REALLY!!!  How is your response not meant to be critical or offensive..Your abrasive commentary is not the best way to get your point across. In fact, its sometimes best to just keep ones comments or opinions to yourself when you disagree with how something is done.

I posted what I wanted to, and you can do the same the next time you post information.  Kurt or one of the MOD's, please feel free to delete this respone if it crosses the line, but some people on this site just want to find fault with everything that others do without constructive input as you and John added to make sure this is done better the next time.

Kurt, here is the info on the motor..The pictures I took did not turn out so well..Here is what I found out off the block and heads.

The block is a 3956618
Production date A 14 9.
The heads are 393927186 B 17 8
And the intake is correct as well.

Here are a few pictures..

That's what I plan to do..I have tried to tell the guy where to look for the partial Vin. number but he's not will to put a lot of time into confirming the number or block casting since he just wants to get rid of the motor..One would think, he would be motivated to look at this, since there's not a lot of local people looking for 302 motors. To find the original owner would make the motor more valuable. But it seems that what he wants me to do for him.

I finally sold a 383  motor, built with an 010 block after sitting on it for two years.  It was a 10:01 - roller motor, but no one seemed to want a to buy a motor without knowing the HP before hand. I finally made a long time friend of mine a deal on it just to get it out of my garage.
