So from reading the article a 69 pace car without AC and with a 350 should have a 4 blade fan and not a clutch fan?

Isn't there a technique for raising stamped numbers from metal using acid?  Seems law enforcement has used this on guns in the past.

Yep, I've done it.  Like Paul said, take the neg battery cable off and snug up the lower bolt to hold it in place after  you slip the belt off it.

Where's your timing set?  Did you check the thermostat to make sure it opens all the way at the right temp?

Decoding/Numbers / Re: Rear axal code date

My 02D Z11 3.07 Non Posi was built late November or early December, don't remember the actual date but its in the ball park.  So it's a significant time before the build of the car.  Don't have any reason to believe it's not the original to the car, I bought it in 84.

General Discussion / Re: Alternator bracket spacer

Its a water pump housing with the mount for the alternator bracket located like a 76-84 small block - they were set back closer to the block and use a different upper bracket.  Using a 69 bracket, you need a spacer on that pump, like in the picture.

I don't think thre should be a VIN stamp on that block in that location considering the build date indicated by the VIN.  It should be down by the oil filter on the cast part of the block. Thats 8, need 2 more.

Thanks Guys!  I measured and looked at my stick and it matches Marty's measurement and markings so I guess it's correct.  Maybe it is the wrong tube?  The top of mine sits about even with the top of the upper heater tube coming out of the firewall (eye balling it) sound about right?

Well this is interesting - mine measures 24 inches too, but if I fill to the mark running and warmed up it's over full.  The transmission shop that built it for me told me when warm and full it should be at about the gasket line in the pan.  I ended up using a clear hose to establish the fill level by running it down the dipstick tube, and bottoming it on the pan then measuring level by coming back up the stick by the level of the pan.  When I did this, after sucking fluid out to get it to the right level, it stopped puking fluid out the vent.   The full level is about where the first D in the word Add is on the stick that Marty has.  The tube is the original for the car.  Hmmmm, not sure what to think about this now.

Thanks Lawrence!  Marty, I assume yours is original?, Can you let us know what length yours is please?  I can measure the one I have, and get close but because it's too short I will have to guess at the length.  When about full the level registers just at the start of the twist at the end on mine.
