Maintenance / Re: Battery Chargers
« on: May 01, 2012, 11:24:07 PM »
I'm using a batteryminder 1224b - works well - it brought my lawn tractor battery back to life, one yellow top optima and 2 Dualpro trolling batteries back to live as well.  Works with AGM, Gel and wet cell batteries - up to 8 amps of charging power, and goes down to trickle charge when they are topped off.   I have enough batteries after using this for a year I picked up another one so I can cover my charging needs.

I have seen plenty untucked, but more not even installed - both on very nicely done cars.  Both amazing to me really.

There's probably 6 inches of overlap before I tuck it under the folded top in the center.

Not original, I bought it about 20 years ago I would guess.

So my top boot doesn't want to keep the front edge tucked in when I drive it on the highway, it starts lifting a little in the center and then after a while the hole leading edge by the rear seat is up in the air flapping - How were these supposed to be kept in place so they don't lift up and flap?  It's really tight around the well trim - hard to get the thing stretched enough to get the clips over it.  Suggestions?

I used to get splash back all the time filling my boat and found turning the nozzle upside down prevents it - have you tried it?

These four front speakers provide pretty decent sound and clarity.  It may not be the best sound system available, but everything fits in a stock location and is hidden and looks original and provides nice sound quality for not a big dollar investment and no cutting up the car to do it.
Steve, What do you have for a head unit?

Originality / Re: 1969 radiator fan

Thanks Kurt, I figured to keep the rotating mass down - but why would that be important?  Is it to let the speed of the fan come up to the engine speed quicker and so put less strain on the clutch?  Is it to help the motor rev quicker?  Keep centrifical forces down so the fan stays together at high RPMs?  I realize this was a design choice by engineers and answers may be speculation, those are the only 3 reason's I could come up with but thought someone might know for sure which is why I was asking.

Ed, there was a conversation over on Camaros.net recently about them.  The feedback was they look great but the sound quality is not up to today's standards for radios.  No comments that I remember about the build quality.

did the use aluminum on the 7 blade fans to keep the weight down so they didn't come apart at higher RPMS like the 302 was capable of I wonder?

Are the blades on the original clutch fans steel or aluminum?  Not the center hub but the blades.

Just unplug the hose from the booster and cover the end - see how it runs.  Or shoot some ether around the booster and see if the idle changes.  Starting fluid (not around the distributor) is the best way to find a vacumm leak IMHO.  Short squirts here and there - in a ventilated area.  When you hit the leak it will idle right up or die if it's a monster leak.

Mine have the metal plate - the after market versions do not and will not mount right based on my experience.  There's a screw that holds the chromish bezel to the grip that screws into that plate. Without that plate the handle won't hold the bezel in place well.
