Decoding/Numbers / Re: 70 Z28 Trim tag
« on: June 16, 2019, 01:43:15 AM »
That is a legit tag, early production Norwood built Z28's in '70 did not have the "Z" in front, but did have the 28 on the Trim Tag.  That build date would be consistent with no Z in front of the 28.

Are you looking to purchase or just curious? If buying then make sure you double check vin, driveline stampings etc. Although those rivets look original sometimes you never know.... :-\

General Discussion / Re: Canadian Doc's

Interesting debate, I live in Canada and had/have lots of opportunity to buy Canadian GM documented cars without OE engines, trans etc. The last two Z's I have purchased were out of the US, both numbers matching and with original paperwork. For me getting a numbers matching car with documentation made more sense than buying something with GM Canada docs and no OE drivelines. I agree the GM Canada docs are pretty much bullet proof but human nature is not....Re-bodied cars and other funky stuff people do to make money happens all the time. A few years ago I checked out a '69Z with GM Canada docs, was a rare car as it had an unusual color combo, upon my inspection I found a fake trim tag and the vin plate on dash did not have the original rivets...but the owner was bragging about the GM Canada docs, I left the car where it sat and apparently it was sold to an unsuspecting buyer who bought into that hype of GM Canada docs.

I see the Buy it now price is lower than the highest bid on the last auction...

I would want to check it over in person first.  Rust might be more extensive than shown.

Bryon you are correct about the rusty areas, I spoke to the seller (nice guy and seemed honest) and he sent me more photos of the underside and dash area, this car will be a full restoration project. Not sure someone can just buy the car, install the original 302 and be done...no doubt there will be metal repair and likely panel replacement including rear frame rail work. IMO this car is the real deal and a rare color combo, the buyer would have to decide does that out way the work required to bring this one back to life.  The current engine in the car is a 383 stroker block, seller does not know why the engine was changed out nor does he know for sure the original engine is still good...said no rods were hanging out so I guess that might be a good sign....

Interesting...I guess we will see some more Z's and L78 cars hitting the road soon.

Nice car and looks to be pretty complete, not sure about the starting bid...seems a little high for a car that needs a resto, he just re-listed this Z, started at $38K and dropped to $37,500 now $35K first bid. I really like this one, don't see too many Glacier Blue Z's around. All the stampings and TT look legit.

This is the same guy that has the L-72 Z/28 paperwork. That would sour me on being interested on anything else he has...

I suspect the car was sold that is why the E-Bay ad was removed, the hype around someone famous owning it was the big selling point....

10
E-Bay is a funny place, I have noticed even after the hammer drops a good 50% of the cars get re-listed because of eager people who will bid but not buy...

11
Crazy he is trying to fleece you for $2K...will he at least give you the information off the invoice for $100? Maybe try that then you would not have to guess...

12
Ed I cannot believe you figured most of that ad out, seemed like gibberish to me. Dude must have been drunk when he typed that out  :o

13
Just saw this one on E-Bay, very nice car...has someone seen this in person?  Lots of information in the write up and also like the exterior color.  Starting to see '70 Camaros get some respect and values are on the rise.

Congratulation on the purchase Jim, I remember seeing that Z for sale on Yenko.net, that is a very cool car.

Wow, nice car...dusk blue is one of my favourite colours in '69. I live local to you, maybe you can extend an invite to a few of us local Camaro guys to come look at this beauty  ;D
