Decoding/Numbers / L48 MV block on eBay
« on: August 20, 2020, 09:38:06 PM »
Spotted this one on eBay when looking for orphans.  Any thoughts from the experts on the missing partial VIN?  Looks like the top deck was lightly machined.  Is it a re-stamped engine code, or maybe just the partial VIN was removed for someone looking to re-stamp their own VIN, or possibly the VIN wasn't stamped as deep as the assembly code?

Originality / Another seat hinge question...
« on: May 27, 2020, 12:30:57 PM »
...this time for front bucket seats, more specifically on a 67.  Were all the hinges connecting the seat top to bottom painted black, or some other color, or painted to match the interior color?  The plastic covers were obviously interior color, but I'm asking about the actual metal hinges.  Thanks

Originality / rear fold down seat hinges - color
« on: April 30, 2020, 02:31:19 PM »
Can anyone tell me if, for a non-black interior, the hinges for a fold down rear seat were painted the interior color, to match the carpeted metal seat back panel?  Or were all hinges black?  Specifically for a 67 LOS car, however I suspect it would be the same across all first gens.  Thanks

Decoding/Numbers / eBay "Reconditioned Engine"
« on: August 14, 2019, 03:17:10 PM »
I suppose we'll start seeing these show up in cars, whose current or unknowing future owners will swear it's original to the car.  eBay seller cornhuskers

1967 Camaro SS 350 ci, 295 hp, Reconditioned Engine, V1122MS, No VIN stamping

Stamping:  The engine assembly stamping on this engine was done by myself and is a correct copy of the stamping done by GM with simulated broach marks.  I have been doing these stampings (mostly Corvettes) for nearly 40 years and my previous stampings have passed literally hundreds of NCRS judging inspections, Bloomington Gold judging, and the scrutiny of major auctions over all these past years.  As far as I know, engine assembly stamping is totally legal in all 50 states but not to be confused with VIN stamping.  Even with my record, can I absolutely guarantee that this stamping will pass any and all judging, NO, because judging is subjective.

Restoration / another sheet metal marking example
« on: July 25, 2019, 07:34:45 PM »
After nearly 35 years, my car is finally in the shop for a full restoration.  I'd done a partial back in the 80s and then it was parked and became a garage table until this year.  After blasting there was a distinct sheet metal marking revealed, right on the middle of the tail pan, left side. I'm guessing that "Weirkote" rolled steel came from a long-gone Weirton Steel plant in WV or southern Ohio, and the part was stamped in the Cincinnati area around Norwood, possibly Hamilton/Fairfield as were some of my other parts, then shipped off to Van Nuys.

Apparently one 67 L35 snuck out of the plant a few months early and undetected!   :o

Funny how the original owner still has the car with the matching VIN, but doesn't want to be contacted:

This engine came out of a late October of 66 built 67 Camaro with a TH-400 auto trans. The block casting date is I 17 6 I believe this engine would also be correct for a November 66 build Camaro also. The engine info on the pad is T0925MY 7N115----(September 25th Th400 auto transmission). The previous owner of this engine still owns the matching Vin Camaro that this engine came out of and under no circumstances do they wish to sell the car period! They do not wish to be hunted down or contacted in any way by anyone. If you can not agree to this request in writing prior to purchase, please let me know, I will have the block decked removing the Vin # only from the pad. This is an exceptionally nice engine and very rare to be so complete.

General Discussion / old GMPD parts card
« on: July 31, 2018, 02:33:51 AM »
Thought I'd show this late 1960s GM parts control card that somehow managed to survive on an unboxed and odd shape NOS part I recently bought.  Haven't seen one of these punch cards in years - probably high tech and state of the art back in the day.  I do recall seeing these in the late 70s and early 80s, but I think the format was a little different.  This appears to be a 2/68 version.
