General Discussion / Re: Seen Jon Mello '67 Z/28 today!

I go to Santa Barbara a lot - my son goes to school at UCSB.   Would like to meet the guy with the Cortez Z someday.     In fact, I'm heading up there this weekend - may have to stop at Sunset Chevrolet on the way back.

Lloyd - my 04B VN built '69 Z has the large yoke style as well.    I don't have a good picture of it to post unfortunately.

Well, all I can say is the support bracket was there on the bezel when I disassembled the dash and had the correct code "NN".  It's an original console/gauge car and this bezel is original to the car. And being a Z, no AC.   My car is very similar to Tim's.   04B, Van Nuys, 69-69.

Here's a pic of the bracket before restoration:

The bezel looks nice, do they rechrome the whole bezel and then paint the bezel, or only rechrome the outlines and lettering ?

Here's the process, per their website description:  http://www.instrument-specialties.com/services/plastic-chrome-bezels/

Great documentation Hans. Did you walk it in to Mike at SI in North Kingstown or ship it?

Thanks.   I shipped it - in a big box with lots of bubble wrap!

Dave -

I'm not sure on the exact finishes, but I had mine restored by Rick Nelson from MuscleCar Restoration, http://www.musclecarrestorationanddesign.com/index.htm.  He's well known to do spot on restoration work.

Here's the results - maybe you can deduce the correct finishes from here:

Dave -

The build date of my Z is 04B, Van Nuys.  The axle date/code is:  BV0403G1.     So I'd say it's a mid-year build, not late.

Seems to me you have to have the smaller flanged bolt head otherwise it doesn't appear it would clear the bracket upon tightening.

By the way, I originally bought a reproduction.   Though not terribly bad, it was wrong in a few areas, notably the fonts used in some places (the "M" in Volume was an upside down "W").    Also, I did not want to go through the process of having to cut out back faces to accommodate the gauge clusters....again, very happy with the work IS did.

Here's what mine looks like.  I did not remove any of the differential rear cover bolts, other than this one and used the original when I re-installed the brake line bracket and clip.

Any Camaro, even a 6 cylinder, could be ordered with a 4-speed.

My first Camaro was an original Hugger Orange, 6 cylinder, 4sp car!

I had mine restored by Instrument Specialties.   Very satisfied with their work.  They repaired the radio cut-outs and more.

General Discussion / Re: What starting letter should my Plates have?
« on: March 18, 2015, 09:35:36 PM »
SO... Just got off the phone with the CA DMV Special Division. They told me that I can't assign those plates to my car cause they were registered in another State at one time. Which is Utah, where we got the car. And that the system won't let them open TWO files on the same car. They can't create another file. Once it leaves the state your screwed. Funny how I always get these bizarre type situations that nobody has ever heard of. If you want the wrong food at the restaurant, go with me  ;D  There is one more chance to make it happen. I have to print out form #352 for "year of plate" license plate application. Good Times for all... NOT!!.. Danny

Not sure I understand - how were CA plates registered in Utah?    Wouldn't Utah have issued Utah plates and now that your car is back in CA, you want to re-use the original plates issued back in '69 in CA on your car?   Why does the DMV say you can't do that?  Sorry - I probably missed something and a little confused.

General Discussion / Re: Another 99K 69 Z/28

I like the fact that it is a M22 car, but kinda takes away from it that it has power steering ??? I am not sure why someone would order the heavy duty close ratio trans with Power steering back then. Then again I am not a big power steering guy. A couple of my big block cars came with it, so I just left it on.

How about a new post about your motor??

My '69 Z also has the factory M22 with factory power steering per the build sheet.
