OK, per the chassis broadcast copy, my ’69 Z came with the top post battery (04B, Van Nuys built), MF and BF codes.    I’d like to get as correct as possible battery cables.

Best I can tell per the AIM, UPC 12/A11, page 162, the correct PN is 6297647 for the Positive cable.  Don't know the neg cable PN#.

Unfortunately, it appears that for whatever odd reason, the correct battery cables for a 1969 Camaro small block with top post battery are not being reproduced while they make them for every other configuration, including inline 6 cylinders.  Go figure.

So, what’s the best alternative reproduction battery cables to get?  Get the reproduction battery cables for the HD battery, or??

Restoration / Clutch Lower Push Rod Alignment & AIM?
« on: July 07, 2014, 04:34:22 PM »
I've been attempting to assembly the Clutch Bell Crank and Lower Clutch Push Rod.  If I follow the AIM, it appears there is a major mis-alignment with the lower push rod and the clutch fork.  If I flip the push rod to the other side of the bell crank arm, it appears to align well.

What is correct?   Do I have some underlying alignment issue with the Bell Crank & Clutch Fork?

Here's the situation:

AIM Diagram for reference:

Lower Clutch Rod, installed per the AIM:  Note big alignment gap:

If I install the push rod on the other side of the arm, (opposite side of what the AIM suggests), it appears to align just fine.  What is correct??

Originality / Original or GM Replacement Power Steering Belt - Z28
« on: December 26, 2013, 05:38:05 PM »
The following Power Steering belt was on my car when I purchased it (the top one in the picture below).  Per the AIM, it's the correct PN, 3848263 and appears to be Z28 specific, but I'm not sure if it's factory original or a dealer/GM replacement belt.

In the pic below, the top belt is the original; the lower belt is a Quanta reproduction belt.  As you can see, the reproduction is quite different than the original GM belt.   But that is not to say the Quanta belt is incorrect - it might be a correct factory style belt, maybe there were multiple suppliers/styles, or?

Thoughts/comments on these belts?

Restoration / Steering Column Sticker
« on: August 23, 2013, 04:41:17 PM »
I recently had my steering column restored.  Unfortunately, the steering column sticker was too far gone to be salvaged.  Does any know if these are reproduced?  And if so who?   Much appreciated.

Restoration / Fuel Line Clip Restoration
« on: April 30, 2013, 09:17:34 PM »
OK, had a hard time trying to either restore or find correct 3/8" fuel line clips.  Ordered reproductions and sent them back (wrong color, etc).  I tied the Dykem machinest dye, but too dark.   Finally tried a hobby store and asked they had any sort of transparent blue paint or dye - they suggested Testors 1257 Transparent Blue.   So thought I'd try it.   It's a little glossy, but I thought the color/transparency was pretty close.   Here's the results:

On the left is the Testors Painted version.  Note the original is greasy on top - only the area around the bolt hole is the right color.

And all the brake and fuel lines restored/replated:

Were orignal '69 black consoles painted from the factory or were they left in the natural plastic finish?

Restoration / '69 RS Vacuum Actuators - Restorable or?
« on: May 28, 2012, 06:41:28 PM »
Are RS Vacuum Actuators restorable?   The internal piston seems to move fine (blows/sucks air); the exterior is slighty rusty/dirty - is it possible to have them replated without effecting the inside?

Restoration / Heater Box Finish - Interior
« on: May 07, 2012, 10:29:09 PM »
Getting ready to restore the heater box (the interior component with the heater core).  What is the correct finish?  It appears to be textured and flat, much like the top of the dash (PPG Code 9317).

Recommendations?

Thanks!

OK, I searched the forums but could not find a clear answer - what is the correct finish for the two subframe brake line brackets and the rear axle brake line bracket?   Here's a picture for reference after I cleaned them up.  If black - satin, semi-gloss, gloss or?   Thanks in advance.

Originality / Stupid Question - What does Sway Bar Rubber Sleeve/Clamp do?
« on: February 06, 2012, 05:02:40 PM »
Ok, restored and re-installed the sway bar sleeve and clamp assembly over the weekend (the round rubber bushing next to the sway bar bracket).   So what does this thing do??  Prevent some lateral motion/sliding of the sway bar?  Sqeaking??  I don't recall my other GM cars having this ('69 Chevelle).

After cleaning up the center link, found these markings - kinda ugly, but where these applied at the factory or did someone spill something sometime later?    '69  04B build, LA Car with 73K original miles.

Restoration / Steering Linkage - Tie Rod Sleeve - correct finish?
« on: January 25, 2012, 06:52:19 PM »
Regarding the steering linkage tie rod sleeves - what is the correct finish?  Natural or black painted?  I've seen both on restored cars and not sure.   Also - how about the two sleeve bolts - black phospate or cadmium/sliver zinc?
