There's a pretty thorough thread on spatter paint, styles, painting techniques on the Yenko site.  Note that LA trunk spatter differ quite a bit from NOR.

I spent 3 days at the auction and checked out most of the Camaros, I think the ZL1 was about all the money considering that it had a column shifter, rebodied non-original engine! The Z-28 cross ram cars had re-pop manifolds, hoods and carbs, you can buy that set-up for around 6K, I can't see those driving the prices up that much unless it's an unknowing buyer.

In my opinion, the mystic of the Cross Ram Z has significantly diminished with the advent of the reproduction intakes.   Kinda too bad.

Yet this one pulled $242K:  https://www.barrett-jackson.com/Events/Event/Details/1969-CHEVROLET-CAMARO-Z28-271570

Market has softened a bit and will probably continue that trend.  It was pretty high (crazy in my opinion).

Didn't get to see the COPO cross the block but I did see 2 of the cross ram cars sell. I may be wrong but I feel like these cars were going for north of $200k a few years ago? These only ("only"  ::)) sold for $165k and $117k respectively. Scrolling the listing I found another that was sold for under $100k. I would think the last one probably had non matching #'s drivetrain to sell for as little as it did, not much to go off of in the description other than the original window sticker. But if it is an actual JL8 car you think that would bring more money. Maybe someone on here can shed some more light on that one.

The '69 Cortez RS Z - from the Description:    "Equipped with a non-OEM Trim Tag"......and still fetched $165K.

Originality / Re: Center Link Inspection Markings?
« on: December 22, 2023, 03:52:16 AM »
I've not noted or read concerning consistent markings similar to driveshafts but the shaft has original finish look so why not? Document and I'd replicate. Assume you will restore by utilizing gun blue method and then go for it. Love the original things we find Hans.

Appreciate the feedback Chick.   Yes, I've documented the inspection marks and based on your and other feedback, will most likely attempt to replicate the graffiti.

And yes, I did hot blue the center link, following the process Lloyd used.

Hers's a link of the result and process:  https://www.instagram.com/p/CtFXFKCyAtZ/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

Originality / Center Link Inspection Markings?
« on: December 21, 2023, 07:32:44 PM »
Curious if there are any known consistent, correct inspection markings for the Center Link.   Based on a few forum reviews and discussions with others, its not clear what if any consistent inspection markings have been found on the Center Link.

Here's an older forum on the topic:   http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=17558.msg160038#msg160038

Here's some pictures of the Center Link and noted inspection markings from my '69 Camaro Z/28, Van Nuys build, 04B.

Note the Big Pink blob plus a few circular stripes with some yellow as well as the two white dots near the idler arm.

Thoughts?   Are these correct and should I replicate?

Decoding/Numbers / Re: Part Number Stamp or Sticker on Wiper Motor Assy
« on: October 29, 2023, 12:55:06 AM »
Older thread - have a few questions and adding my wiper motor data -

Question - For LOS cars, if the wiper motor is stamped with a PN, does that imply it did not get a sticker?

From the very limited data set, this appears to be the case.   I found no evidence of sticker when I removed the wiper motor back in the day.

Data from my car:
Build Week:   LOS/NOR:   RS/NonRS    Sticker PN   Stamp PN   Sticker Codes    Wiper Motor Plant    Other

Sorry to hear.   I met John at SEMA some years ago and always enjoyed conversing with him. Great wealth of knowledge about Goodyear tires. Bought both sets of tires for the Z and Chevelle directly from him at the show.   Good to hear his daughter will continue the business.

General Discussion / Re: VN vs NOR Assembly/Production Differences?
« on: October 13, 2023, 02:51:27 PM »
Add:

Lower Control Arm Bolts Point a different direction than NOR & AIM.

I think the Judging Manuals also have a Bunch of Plant differences captured.

Yes, I noticed this one as well - the bolts point towards the front.   Didn't realize this was a VN specific installation process.   Thanks for the confirmation.

William - Thank you for the details.  Interesting details, exactly what I'm looking for.

Of Note:
- Yes, the cowl area was nicely masked off - tape marks were there when I removed the cowl.  I'll post when I get a chance.
- Yes, the foam pads are glued to the body/upper cowl area
- I'll check the trunk sound deadener details.  Hadn't noticed any squared-off pattern

Interesting detail on the black painted tail pipes.  Exhaust system was long replaced so no way to validate.

Mines an April build so, stripes are probably consistent with either plant

General Discussion / VN vs NOR Assembly/Production Differences?
« on: October 12, 2023, 03:36:51 PM »
The other day, I posted an update of my Z's progress on my IG account.  An astute commenter asked if I have an LA (Van Nuys) built Z.  I said yes and he responded "I noticed the direction of your engine pedestal (motor mount bracket) mounting bolts. Figured it must be LOS car..."

The AIM calls for the bolt heads to be on top of the bracket but VN installed the bolt heads on the underside of the frame with the nut on the top of the bracket.

With that, what are the other differences with how LA cars left the factory vs Norwood?

I aware of the following:
VN vs NOR:
- No X codes
- Trunk spatter paint differs (stringy vs blots/dots)
- No "PTB" stamp.
- Different Jack (Walker vs Universal)

What else?  Any other differences on how the cars left the factory?  Paint?  Underside primers?  Cowl stripe treatment?  Stripes?

Appreciate any other updates - trying to ensure my Z is restored correctly per Van Nuys plant practices.

General Discussion / Re: Original Drive Train Cars
« on: June 05, 2023, 09:42:34 PM »
"Born With" seems to be the newest most accepted term to imply original installed in the factory, stamped at the factory driveline.  Back in the day, it was either Numbers Matching or NOM...Non-Original Motor....in fact, at one point "Numbers Matching" meant EVERYTHING matched - from engine block to all the various components...

Originality / Re: JL8 caliper finish
« on: May 09, 2023, 03:22:19 AM »
See Michael Lamm's book - The Great Camaro.   There is a picture of a JL8 rear axle  on page 67.    The calipers appear painted.   Page 64 also has a picture, but more difficult to tell if they are painted.

John Hooper's book, The 1969 Camaro Reference Book, has pictures of JL8 calipers on page 123 & 127.   Appears painted, but sorta hard to confirm 100%.

Restoration / Re: Upper A-arm Splash Shields
« on: April 30, 2023, 04:19:17 PM »
Here is a picture of the splash shields made by R.E.M. (www.REMAUTOINC.com) I purchased from Heartbeat City Camaro last week, product BDY-1213, for $21.22.  Notice the material is an incorrect rubber-cork rather than the more correct masticated rubber like Hans L shows above in his post #34, and in Chick's post #39.  The R.E.M. material thickness measures between 0.091 - 0.092 inches.  I did find that Steele Rubber Products now offers a die cut 5-piece kit 70-3332-45, for the '67 - '69 Camaro that includes the staples for $45.89.  It's twice the price but a more accurate repro part (if that is what you are after).

Has anyone recently used the Steele's kit?  Does it have holes punched in the shield that installs on the bracket and clip (see janobyte's post #35) in the lower driver's side under the master brake cylinder?  My hope is that this shield DOES NOT have the holes punched in it so I can stapled to the bracket.

Thanks,
Dave

Clearly they changed suppliers from some years ago as those are quite different than what I sourced from HBC
