« on: May 27, 2018, 02:51:08 AM »
Pulling the trans and splitting it apart is more than I want tackle any time soon.I read several post on other sites today and many have left the speedometer gear in the transmission. I think I will take my chances.
If this does not work out I will update this post for others with this issue.

Thanks for the responses, I appreciate the help.

Can it be fished out from the side cover?

Since it is plastic or nylon should I just not worry about it?

General Discussion / Speedometer gear fell inside muncie

Ok I screwed up I could not get the speedometer cable off so I pulled the gear housing. I was attempting to change to the right gear to make the speedometer correct! Speedometer gear fell into the transmission M2. i tried for two hours to fish it out laying on my back, no sucess.
I installed a new gear and drove it home about a mile.

Suggestions please?

Can the plastic gear just stay in the trans?

Ok changed the leaking gas tank and put a new sending unit in,. I filled up and it still showed over full. I checked the gauge before adding gas and it was at empty. I pulled the dash today to change the lens, it was old and hard to see through. I thought I heard about a ground on the guage? Mine did not have any?

http://topclassiccarsforsale.com/chevrolet/266839-1967-chevrolet-camaro-butternut-yellow-matchs-327-muncie-4-speed.html

Hers is the car 2 years ago.  I bought the car from a Widow, her husband had just spent 6K on it new oil pan, rack and pinion steering, new shocks plugs, distrubuter, wires and rear brakes. The car looks good and clean just not fully restored as advertised. I will work out the issues. Just thought I was buying a ready to go driver, did a frame off restroration last time 68 L48 numbers matching. I was not planning on buying a prijexct car.

Gary told me he was President of a local old car club and loved cars. He must pay someone to fix them for him!

General Discussion / Inspection Services
« on: May 19, 2018, 05:39:34 PM »
I recently purchased a 1967 Camaro and had it shipped to me from Denver. Before my purchase I googled classic car inspection services for Denver. I called and talked to one with great ratings the inspector Gary assured me he had the knowledge and experience to do the job and give me a honest opinion of the vehicle.
I asked him to check it out well, body, electrical and mechanical, he said he always does. He called me after his inspection and said the only two things were tires showed some wear and the interior was original. Told me it was worth more than they were asking.
Upon his advice I negotiated a purchase price arangened payment, had the car shipped to me.
The car came with starter fluid and needed a shot before it would start for unloading.
Well now the known issues.
I had to replace the carburetor
Car is leaking oil bad at fuel pump gasket. I will replace Next week.
No back up switch on transmission. Installed today
Defroster control is broken will replace soon
Radio and tachometer would lose power when the clutch was pushed all the way in. Rerouted wiring this morning
Gas gauge does not work properly, will replace sending unit next week
Gas tank leaks, has a bolt stuck in it, will replace next week
Brakes were pulling to the right bad. Front end noise. Tie rod was fixing to fall off tightened, adjusted brakes and reinstalled rear springs properly.
Spitting coolant out after driving each time. Radiator needs roded out, on list to have done.
Speedometer is off says 55 doing 64 ordered proper gear to correct.

Ok you get the idea.
Needless to say I stopped payment to the inspector with my credit card company.

The good body is in great shape, no real issues.

Learn from my experience, if you hire an inspector do not hire Gary!

Ok I removed the ground on the sending unit it made no difference wheather it was hooked up or not with the key on or off? I cleaned it up and reinstalled it. Gauge still shows over full?

Thanks I plan to add vintage air in a week or so and will pull the speedometer assembly then and check all the grounds. If that is not the issue, could the sending unit float be adjusted to solve the problem?

My new toy 67 model  started to run out of gas at 1/4 tank reading. When I filled it up it registered 1/4 over full.
Can the needle be removed and reset to cure this issue or does the gauge need replaced? The gauge is working, just off.

Mild Modifications / Re: Carb for 327 300 horsepower
« on: May 09, 2018, 09:16:49 PM »
Thanks for the replies, I ordred an Edelbrock 1403 500CFM yesterday and will install it next week, no driving the car till then. After installing the new carb, I will have to change the oil you can smell the gas in it.

My last Camaro was an numbers matching 68 RS SS 350 with a rochester carb it did the same thing when it was first purchased after been sitting for years.

The 67 i just purchased had been sitting for a while, this must be an issue with the rochester carb.  Owner died. Widow sold car to me.
