Do you think its possible that they might have an original backup copy of that original data somewhere even thought they did the purge?

Also I don't understand why they are so protective of this information, maybe I'm just not seeing it but I cant see how it would be bad if it was shared...

" BTW, as a teenager, I always wanted to look inside those Dial A Grade pumps to see how they blended all those grades... "

Hi Phill,

I believe it was done the same as today, basically with a blending type valve. Turning the dial selected the preset blend ratio.  So a selected grade would be made up of so much high test (Super gas) and so much of the regular gasoline...  just roughly figuring I think it goes like this;  to get 89 octane the blender takes a preset ratio at about 40% 93 octane and then take about 60% regular 87 octane blending them together for the 89 octane.  (It might be more complicated than that but I think that is the approach.)  Joe   :-\

PS  - in the photo just above the center filter I think is the metering blend valve... the blue thing to the left is a Wayne vacuum motor used for collecting the gasoline vapors from your cars tank as you pumped gas...

FYI  - Here is some more info on the gasoline octane; IMHO  ;)

Octane is an 8-hydrocarbon chain and is more compressible without spontaneous detonation.  Heptane is a 7-hydrocarbon chain. It is very volatile and it ignites spontaneously under very little compression.  So 87 grade gasoline is 87% octane & 13% heptane which ignites at a given compression level.  87 grade is known as Regular gasoline.

Basically what you need to know is that you will get the maximum power from running the lowest octane without detonation... so if you can run 87 octane run that.  The higher grade octanes are only to prevent spontaneous detonation (aka engine knock - very bad).

As you probably know most Chevy Camaro's had average to high compression ratios (i.e. about 9:1 I think for the 327, the L78 11:1, the L72 12:1, L88 & ZL1 12.5:1). The 10:1 and higher ratios would not run without detonation under 93 octane gasoline and that might have been pushing it for the 427's.

The higher the compression ratio the more power the engine made. (the 11:1 and higher stuff was really Hi-Perf race-car levels.) If I remember right, GM required these engines to run on a minimum of 98 octane gasoline; aka Super gasoline, Premium gasoline, etc...

 ;D ;D ;D

Does anyone remember

Sunoco 260 ?

Was it 102, 104, 110 or 120 octane?

Please don't look it up .. just put down what you remember...  BTW I believe that Sunoco did change the octane several times...

another of the same but without the flash reflection

The far left 69 Z28 car reads below it "Z28 Mike 10.90"  The 68 Camaro it reads "Bm/P John 9.30 or 9.80" the far right 67 Camaro reads "SS/D Don's 10.90" E-town" as best as I can make out.   enjoy..

Well i hope i am not posting out of line here but I love seeing these back in the day Camaro photo's

Below is a photo of a photo I took that was posted at a speed shop... I know nothing about any of the Camaro's other than this was on the Berlin Turnpike in CT.  not sure if you can see them but they have some ET's written below with some pretty fast times...   ;)

My Advice: Keep as much original metal as possible and patch the floor holes where even you can.  It just works out better that way.  Stronger and keeps its shape better that way. JMO.

-Mark.

Mark, I took your advice and only replaced what had to be.. Thank you... GI Joe, Airborne!

There was a time when your friendly detective, police officer, law enforcement official could access some type of record from NICB. Today I think it requires a case assignment/number and any officer or other found trying to access the stuff without proper authorization faces severe penalties.

I can concur and can personally testify that is the case that rsinor states above.

Back in the 90's I had a job working in the Traffic division as an engineer.  Of course I became friends with several of the police officers I worked with and some how one day one of them was talking with me about finding the original owner etc.,etc.. and he ran the VIN for that car for me. If I remember correctly it only provided me the dealership where the car was delivered.    :-\

Well fast-forward 20+ years and I have several very good friends through out the states who serve on both fronts, as a police officer and as soldiers.  I have asked a few of them only to end up with Sorry Joe we can't... it putts our jobs at risk, ...its not worth it...etc...etc..

So if you can get that done you really know a VIP somebody and owe them a huge favor...  needless to say I began to realize that I was not just asking for a simple check the numbers... I felt bad about even asking my buddies...  so that is why I can concur...

but personally even though we probably can't ever go back to those days of innocence ... I feel that everywhere you turn there is  Chicken Little "the sky is falling' cry...IMHO that results in over kill and craziness... sigh..

I was thinking... (watch out, dangerous shaky stuff ) LOL ;D    Could there be some discussion and investigation of the possibilities of having CRG approach them from a business point of view?

oh yeah... I should share this for what it is worth...

Every countries population has about 10% of the best and smartest, i.e. your rocket scientist, MD's, PHd's, (Camaro hobbyist... LOL), etc...

now China's 10% is more than all the US population put together...

this little fact brought it in clear for me to see what we are up against...
 :o

BTW, I have nothing against the Chinese people, I think they are a good people, very smart and kind...

but Communism  is another matter...

Wow i did not know this... but i am not surprised either...  :-\

especially since our political folks have IMHO these days forgotten they took an oath to preserve and protect the US Constitution against all Foreign and Domestic enemies...  lately I think a whole mess of them have crossed the line into the enemy category...   >:(

so why would they do anything to keep manufacturing here... where we used to make everything... now the excuse is we can go over seas and basically get slave labor....  world economy or not this I think is the down fall of our great nation... it is not about us... and our founding fathers ideals are a thorn to all the others who want it changed...  :'(

Lets count some facts:

1) we have lost some of our Freedom of Press... the media reports what they want and how they want it seen... do you really think you are getting the full picture? Ask your self who owns the media reporting source and what their agenda is.

2) We are loosing our Freedom of free speech... why do you think they call it politically correct???  for goodness sake should you say the wrong thing!

3) and now we are likely loosing our other freedoms and our Constitution...  especially the right to bear arms...

4) have you noticed that there is always racism, abortion issues, gun issues, gay issues.... why is this???... it is the focus to keep you unfocussed from the real issues...  All I have to say is just follow the money...

i did not mean to get on my soap box here... now they'll be looking at me for speaking the truth... LOL  anyway we all need to do our part in keeping this country a great nation... we still are the beacon of light in this world... so do your part...    ;D

I was just thinking there might be something out there that might help the restoration process.... :-\

tracking progress on each parts restoration, etc... but more importantly knowing what to do  and when to do it...

 :-X
ah huh,

maybe this might be the expert Master restorers secrets to the perfection of this art....  and am I worthy of this knowledge....
